there are very few experiences i consider to be so visceral and haunting that i was simultaneously wanting it to be over because i was so uncomfortable but never wanting to put it down because it was so compelling with intriguing.

you owe it to yourself to buy this game. it takes 2 hours at most to complete and every second is worth it. the art style contributes significantly to its atmosphere. i love that we're at a point where a style that looks dated otherwise is given new life and excels when it comes to horror & retro..... this game would not be as good if it was done in UE5 with hyper realistic character models & its game world. it just wouldn't..... their PS1-esk graphics make it stand out and the frozen character faces create a creepy unsettling tone with almost feels intentional.

there aren't really any puzzles in this game. there are things to figure out and i appreciate those moments so its not just an on the rails story.

if i had to criticize this game even a little i guess i would say it does not hold your hand at all and i felt lost for a few minutes here and there but when i stopped and did a real double take whatever i was confused about was easy to figure out. there are certainly parts of this game where you can kind of die and then it respawns you at the beginning of that section OR a checkpoint if you get far enough. those frustrated me TILL i figured them out. as i said this game doesn't really hold hands. it gives you just enough information to eventually figure out whatever section you're in but not so much that its absolutely crystal clear and you have a sense of uncertainly whenever you do anything.

we need more developers like this. we need more games like this. this is my GOTY 2024. and there are a lot of games to love in 2024.

honestly this game deserves to be a main stream success story. its got great mechanics and combat.

i Don't think i disagree with the criticisms of this game but i actually like the game loop a lot. i hope within a very short period of time they polish it up up and refine a few aspects here and there

overall though i really do appreciate what it is and what you do in it. its clever. and creepy

it's extremely good. basically commandos mixed with a fantasy WW2 campaign. i love it.


UPDATE 9/29 - it just gets better and better the further you get. some of the most satisfying gameplay mechanics i've experienced in a long time. definitely a top contender for my personal GOTY.

i found myself in a bind with a couple of gaming laptops - i'm amazing at how many games still don't add or come with FSR 3.0 - anyways this has been a life saver in maximizing the performance of your laptop. interestingly enough where FSR or DLSS with frame generation cause a latency issue that makes playing with a keyboard & mouse difficult..... i did not experience the same latency with their proprietary Frame generator on. absolutely impressive and i've recommended it to all my friends who really dont want to spend the money on newer hardware quite yet.

i havent started playing a game and then lost 3 hours suddenly in a very very long time. extremely happy

not only did i buy this game at launch.................i bought 3 more copies of it for my friends so we could all play together. so i spent A LOT on this game only to realize its an under cooked lackluster brawler with levels so linear and load screens so frequent that it would have been embarrassing as a PS2 era release.

there is Potential here but its almost like they had some good ideas and got to the point where they were half realized and then just said "ah screw it, good enough"

how can i come to this conclusion with just under 2 hours of playtime you may ask? well because that is literally how long it takes to experience all this game has to offer.

i wanted to love this game. i honestly love a lot of games that have poor critical reception so i figured this would be one of those moments. i was so wrong and it was very heart breaking (and costly) to realize.

do not buy this. i do not know if they plan on expanding it but i dont really think its built to be expanding on in the foundational aspects it would need to be a game worth anyone's time.

i take no joy in being this brutally negative.

Man did i really want to like this game. i had the highest hopes for it. excited to see a classic franchise come back with a AA reboot...... sadly, this is not that.

i will say out the gate, except for the weird bugs and glitches i occasionally ran into the gun is well made. level design is decent though feels almost PS3 era linear at times which is both a good thing and a bad thing for this game.

the story starts off slow but is intriguing till i finally realized i wasnt that interested the majority of the time but only found the isolated stories within the main story that were being sprinkled throughout the game.

the combat is pretty generic. nothing bad, but also nothing to get excited about.

the casting is really it's only saving grace...... the two leads do a good job at carrying the lackluster plot (and me with it) to it's eventual and underwhelming conclusion.

the game allows you to select either of the leads and i've read therre is very little that actually changes. had i enjoyed the overal experience more i'd be ready to jump back in as the other character.....but it just wasnt worth the efforts.

i really wanted this game to be amazing. i wanted to love it from start to finish. but its just the safest of safe reboots you could possibly make.......the story and it's ending leaves a lot to be desired.

an example of how video games are just magic. i can't explain how much i love this game.

what more can i ask for? futuristic cyberpunk like game with a decent story & side quests?
