Alan Wake is a pretty good game. The difficulty curve is a bit bumpy with some areas being really easy, but others (at least for me) involving multiple deathes to get right. It has some great creepy moments and the story within a story is done well.
I can't say the same for American Nightmare, though. It's less survival horror and more third person action game. I think they were shooting for campy, but went too far. The scripting, voice acting, and timing are all subpar compared to the first game. The combat is pretty fun, though.
If you wait till one of the many deep discounts it has, it's definitely worth picking up for the first game alone.
