Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is an amazing experience, bolstered by a fantastic community, and plentiful mod support.

I started playing SoaSE quite some time ago, around when it first released, and have been actively playing it ever since. I decided to acquire a digital copy on Steam a few years ago, only after having played a disc to inoperability. It's easily one of my favorite RTS games, and stands above many of the titles I have played over the years as one of the greatest games of all time.

It's addictingly fun, with several unique and interesting factions, and a paced gameplay that suits my style. Epicly large scale, Sins is a 4X title, that can see you fighting over hundreds of worlds and dozens of star systems. While vying for control as an up-and-coming empire on the rise you'll see yourself commanding thousands of vessels - often waging pitched battles against a competent AI, or other players.

Managing your empire requires you to keep tabs on a dynamic economy system, while gathering resources via asteroids. Fighting your enemies isn't all about the combat either, making allies is just as important. With a robust diplomacy system, and incentives to play cooperatively there's always room to make friends.

There's a lot of outstanding features of SoaSE, but the largest and greatest of all has nothing to do with the game itself, but rather its community.

There's an absolute ton of mods. If it has spaceships, it's here. Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, Halo, Stargate, etc. All the biggest series have a group of dedicated fans that have been hard at work making awesome mods, with loads of new content for free. Right when you think there's nothing more that Sins can offer you, or it's just starting to get stale, there's a new mod that adds even more replayability.

At the time of this writing I haven't played vanilla Sins in a few years, all that time in between has been taken up by playing total conversion modifications. They're as high quality (if not better) than base SoaSE, and each has their own staunch following of engaged player bases. Some of them are so good, and add so much to the game, you could essentially see them as their own standalone products that you're getting for free.

While it doesn't have Workshop support, modding the game is incredibly easy and user friendly, and has been actively supported by Ironclad and Stardock. There's nothing stopping you from taking a vision for a mod and implementing it into the game at your own leisure, or downloading one already available.

At this point, the only thing I can say to add to this review is that I absolutely love this game, highly recommend getting it, and that I cannot wait to see a sequel!
