Director, you are the most spineless person I know. The team released a new unit which was poorly tested, did the right thing in nerfing it (alongside another problematic ID), get flamed by the chinese and walk back your patch, even though the rewards for the nerf were generous enough to compensate for the miniscule kit adjustment on the new seasonal ID. It is obvious you have attempted this change knowing well enough that the chinese will review bomb the game (as they had done before with Ring Pointilist Yi Sang), and it was an obvious attempt at sticking it up to them. Yet you caved. You have lost all of my respect. Don't expect the situation to get any better

I've only played MGS3 from the Collection so I'll leave a review here instead on the whole pack, since I've heard there are different issued with the other games.

I don't get the hate on this port.

Sure, being locked on 780p res can be pretty annoying, especially when you want to alt-tab to do something else while the game is still running, but I don't consider this as a deal breaker worthy enough of a downvote.

From my perspective, the graphic fidelity has not been altered in the slightest from the low resolution. I daresay it looks quite pretty, even to people who usually don't like how older games look (a statement I got from a friend of mine while I was streaming the "The End" fight).

I've also heard issues with the keyboard controls and how hard it is to bind keys. This is another problem I simply don't understand. The Metal Gear Solid games are meant to be played with a controller. They were made with a controller layout in mind. Playing on keyboard severely affects the experience of the game. While I know some people that prefer to play on keyboard over a controller, they agree that, for such a game, controller is the one and only way to play. Oh, and also, there's a warning on the Collection that it requires a controller to play, so there's that.

Now, for the keybinds resetting every time you open the game. This is an issue that can affect controller players alike. However, unless you have a broken input on your controller, I highly suggest just playing on the default config. Same as above, that's how the game was meant to be played.

I can point out, however, about the inconsistent audio. The game itself is VERY loud. So loud that I had to set it at a healthy 5% on the volume mixer. Another problem with audio is that some voice-lines are compressed (i.e Snake and Para-Medic in Codec). This is truly an issue, but not a game-breaking one. Users shouldn't be deterred by a down-vote in buying this collection over this.

An upside to this port is that the game runs at 60 FPS consistently, which makes the game-play feel really smooth. There is an issue, however, where your screen turns black for a second and then suddenly the game runs at x2 the speed. It happened to me twice or thrice on completely random intervals. This issue can be solved just by alt-tabbing.

While this is a pretty bare-bone port, it is however the best way to play the older MGS games. I won't deny that Konami is one of the greediest companies out there, in the leagues with Nintendo and EA, but this port beats emulating the games out of the park. Emulating can bring all sorts of trouble, such as inconsistent frame-rate, textures not loading correctly, and in some cases, game-breaking bugs (while I was emulating the PS2 copy of MGS 3 with PCSX2, in the fight with The Fury, he would keep killing himself with his own flames, making the non-lethal route impossible to achieve).

In conclusion, I can recommend the MGS - Master Collection to everyone who wishes to try out the highly appraised Metal Gear Solid games.

To be honest, I don't buy a lot of games, due to the possibility it may be one that I may not like and played beyond the refund point. But, when I saw this on sale, I knew what I had to do.

I first played this game through the XBOX360 demo, which i replayed the hell out of due to the fun and sometimes challenging combat, the good visuals which still stand up even today, and the sick soundtrack. This is the first time I bought this game and I've gotta say, it gives me a huge feeling of nostalgia being able to play it again.

This game is a Hack n' Slash without any complicated mechanics (in the base game, at least), yet still is somewhat challenging if you try and attempt it on the harder difficulties to get that adrenaline-inducing S rank on every encounter. As stated above, the graphics are still very good even today. The lighting effect on water and some shiny surfaces like Raiden's armor heavily carry the visual appeal. There is a diversity in enemies, and even a boss you encounter later on will become a normal enemy a chapter afterwards.

Although, the story is fairly short, I'm already half-way through with a lot of restarts to get the highest ranking I can on each encounter (I'm at the 3 hour mark), and there's been some problems with the camera controls. For example: If I'm getting attacked by 2 or more enemies, whenever i turn around to either block or attack an enemy, the camera follows my back. This sometimes leads me to completely miss seeing an attack being done by the opponent i was previously looking at and be struck. There is a lock-on feature, but its recommended to be only used on bosses, since you can't snap-lock to another enemy with the right analogue stick.

Even though the game has some cons, they're overshadowed by the pros. Right now, the game isn't too cheap on Steam, so I recommend you try and search it on a third party site for a key (the copy I got went for around 4-5 dollars). If you wish to buy a cheap game in which you can squeeze hours into, this is the game for you.
