So... I didn't know that Gothic remake was in the works, so it was a complete suprise for me. I was really hyped when I installed it, since I am a huge fan of Gothic and especially Gothic 2. And a free preview of work in progress for fans, that's a such a nice move, that I can't hate the company that is doing this. But I'll be honest nonetheless, since it's the best policy. Aad I hope that the developer team will take this with an understanding, that I, as a fan, just want to see the best product possible.

Now that I played it for half an hour I have been disappointed a lot. The only good things are visuals. It looks great, and the style is very appropriate for the new generation Gothic. And may be the combat system as well, but I didn't toyed enough with it. It looks promising.

On the other hand, the introduction is a fantasy Mass Effect 2 and it's not Gothic at all. Gothic intro was on point with showing how mundane yet brutal the world inside is. It didn't need to start things with explosions to sell the setting to the player. I also miss the intro bits with the judge. It showed how non-challant the Nameless One was (btw, I hate that everyone calls him Rookie now), plus set up the goal of delivering the scroll from the beginning, instead of delegating it to the Diego.

The Nameless One's line "I have to get out of this prison ASAP" makes no sense at all. The magic barrier is one way only. The new intro seemingly skipped this moment (actually, it's an important point that should've made an accent on), but everyone who played the original game knows that, and every citizen of the kingdom must know that. The Nameless One knows that he has no chance in the world to escape this place.

Other things, that could be scoffed at the early stages of the development, but since I'm afraid that dev team can forget, I'll point it nonetheless.
-Creature AI is weak. The original games had one of the strongest AIs in the genre. Wild animals will not attack immediately. They'll make a warning scream, and if you go away, they'll leave you alone. And enemies will stop pursuing you after awhile. They'll stop, scream something and them move back. Here, no warnings at all. To be fair, at least the gates guard reacted properly when I uncheathed my weapon. So I hope that creatures will get the same treatment.
-No mantling system, which limits the exploration angle a lot.
-Starting location doesn't look like anything that was in the first game. Plus invisible walls - I hate it.
-I tried to fight the gates guard, and he, as expected, beat me. He just killed me. And I have zero idea, if its by design or not. But one of the things that original Gothic done well, is that if you fight with a friendly NPC, and somebody wins, they don't die. They (or the player) lie on the floor for a while, and the other side can loot the body, and if one chooses so, then they finish the loser and kill him. I hope that this will remain the same.
-I miss Kai Rozenkatz music. You should either use old melodies, record/remix them anew, or hire him. His music has so much charm, it's actually one of my all-time favorites.

At this point I can't recommend this remake. But I hope that in some time I could do so.

Приятная адвенчура с весьма неплохим и изобретательным юмором (даже не смотря на то, что пародийности здесь много).

It's so unrealistic - it's fun!

Left-sided kung-fu'ish GTA. Perfect for waiting GTA5 release.
Well, I guess ending could be better.
