Early Access Review
Review Disclaimer: This review follows the notion that Terratech Worlds is NOT Terratech. I view that both have the block tech mechanics from the first game, enemy techs, and resource gathering and crafting, but that's about where the core similarities end.

Terratech Worlds is an interesting game in its early access stage. I had connection issues at launch, though those worked themselves out, and the controls took a bit to get a hang of (For the first hour after the tutorial I felt like the reason why I couldn't move my controller cursor was a bug. It wasn't.)

First off, the subtle elephant in the room. This won't likely be noticeable unless you do multiple saves, or play singleplayer and multiplayer: The worlds aren't randomly generated, from what I can see, and what the community has told me. If this is how it'll be going forward, I'll be mostly disappointed, because part of the reason why I love Terratech so much is because of the replay value whenever a new content update drops.

Next, the reactor and axel/frame/weapon mount system and ammo/inventory systems. I actually like these balance changes compared to Terratech. A few glaring issues I had with Terratech was the amount of weapon/bullet spam a lot of mid-to-late-game enemy techs had, and is part of the reason why I decided to start playing around with Hawkeye blocks in that game before the release of this one, as their larger weapons are slow but powerful. Seeing an ammo/energy resource system in this game made me gleeful, as it means that trying gun spam here will only eat through your ammo/energy way faster, and will leave you vulnerable. But also seeing ways to make your wheels and weapons more efficient makes it feel more balanced. Overall, a positive change.

The resource gathering, at first, started to feel like a slog. The moment I found out about seams, that all changed. I love this mechanic. It adds variety, and makes gathering resources with ballistic weapons a bad idea against minerals without making resources painful to deal with.

The changes to how blocks fall off your tech and how repairing works is also a great improvement. There have been times where I forget to screenshot my tech and lose a LOT. Having it this way is makes recovery a lot easier and less punishing to your tech.

I like the conduit system, but just having straight and corner conduits to work with is a bit annoying without having any sorting or splitting to automate just slapping debris and carbon into a silo and having it all turned into refined carbon.

Setting up base anywhere besides your spawn area is awful. I tried setting up base near the biome with blue trees, and I could not get any of the missions done, as both me and my base were absolutely PELTED with enemies with higher-grade weapons (especially plasma weapons) that I just couldn't deal with. Combined with how high-up the camera is, and I just had to restart from scratch.

I had a severe framerate issue when I simply looked at the sky, even on the Steam Deck with all of the settings set to "Low", which was kind of obnoxious to deal with. The game could definitely use some optimization.

I like the licensing changes, however, I'm sad that acquiring licenses to a corporation's blocks was not a mechanic that was brought back.

Overall, I like the direction that the game has taken, and I look forward to see where the game goes from here. It's not without its flaws, but those are expected in early access. I give this game a rating of 7/10. I hope this review makes it to the devs and brightens their day amidst all the negative reviews.

The Wandersong OST is wonderful
However it unfortunately got removed from the soundtrack list on Steam once the UI update came out, likely due to the fact that it's considered a "DLC" and not a "Soundtrack".

1. Incomplete. Levels just feel repetitive. This should be early access.
2. The UI feels more like a 2010's mobile game with newer-gen graphics. That's not a good thing.
3. Why the ♥♥♥♥ would you put micro-transactions in a *single-player game?*

Despite all these factors, this game has potential. Hopefully, you devs can actually take advice from reviews and change the game to be more suitable.

I haven't even gotten through the first act, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game is already touching my heart. This is definitely a hidden gem. Rich story (Who knew I would grow so attached to a box?), a good start on the music (It gets repetitive WAY too fast but I still love it), and an amazing execution of mechanics. The controls could use a bit more polishing, and saving isn't very prevalent from what I've seen, but by god, would I recommend it.

I played this game on mobile a lot as a kid. I was bad at it, but I loved it nonetheless.
Several years later, I found out there was a Steam version, and picked it up again as soon as I could.
You bet your ass I still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it. Great game. Will always hold a special place in my heart.
