I loved my time with this game. It is my second most played game on steam behind skyrim. I cannot speak to how accurate it portrays the pathfinder system but from a game design standpoint the early game is really strong. All the way through Act I-III I was ready to recommend this game. At the start of Act IV however I came across an enemy that had an AC that I would need to crit fish to hit, save bonuses that would pass any spell, and while he only made one attack, it would outright kill my strongest characters (on easy mode). I thought this was just a fluke and later found out I could dispel some of his effects to make him an easier fight. He them felt like more of a puzzle than an enemy and for a while I looked more favorably on the designers.
However Act V is why I cannot recommend this game. There is a difference between good challenges and just dartboard design. 30-40% of the enemies you will face can kill a character in one round and are untouchable themselves through magic immunity, AC or just demigod level saving throws. Some will even pick one of your guys and charm them with a DC that would take you rolling a 40 on a d20 to pass.
Challenge through skill is something I greatly enjoy. But when I am relying on all of my characters rolling nothing but nat 20s to even survive then that is just bull****.
I love the story and characters. The early game is really fun and rewarding. It's just a shame I can't complete such a story without having to mod it with cheats to make the game remotely playable.

I never really clicked with Bloodborne and Dark Souls but everything about this game is so well done. I am no where near the end yet but all the same I can't recommend this game enough. The fact that if you run into a wall you can just leave and come back later is brilliant. This is by far the most accessible souls-like so even if previous entries may not have been for you give this one a shot.

Fantastically designed and beautifully animated. I can't stop recommending this game. Never been one for souls-likes but this is the first one I've been able to sink my teeth into. Cannot wait for Silksong.
