General Info
Operating System
EndeavourOS Linux
Windows 10

I recommend giving Linux a try if you have a lot of time and you're experienced with PC's in general, it's great and I have never looked back. Obviously there are problems and some compatibility issues, but you can work around most of them.

I recommend having a dual boot in case you need to boot back into Windows for some specific games like Roblox, Fortnite, Apex, Valorant, R6, new cods, etc. It's easy and some distros set it up for you if you already have windows installed. I've tested Nobara and EndeavourOS which automatically setup grub for you.

Check out ProtonDB [www.protondb.com] for game compatibility and tinker steps if needed to get games running.

Check out AreWeAntiCheatYet [areweanticheatyet.com] to check if your games which use anti cheat are enabled. Games such as Arma 3, Dead by Daylight and a lot of others are enabled. Even Star Citizen!

Specs

MSI GP66 Leopard Gaming Laptop

CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H
GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Laptop
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3200

SSD: Comes with one ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Micron Branded SSD, the cache fills up quite quickly as the drive struggles to write at a decent speed, this isn't really noticeable unless you have gigabit. General read speeds are good but write speeds are terrible for downloads. Absolute joke of an SSD.

Other SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB
Very fast and reliable, bought this specifically after upgrading to Gigabit internet where the Micron issues were noticeable. It's expensive but it's one of the best SSDs you can get for gaming and you won't regret it. I probably went too overkill with 4TB but oh well.

Screen: 244hz IPS Display
Keyboard: SteelSeries per key RGB

The general MSI warranty is good, they will pick up your laptop and send it back with next day delivery. The thermal paste and pads they supply however, are terrible.

Runs Half Life Alyx at Ultra Fidelity (With a good external cooler)
Runs Cyberpunk at Low RTX (Broken game)
Runs Metro Exodus at almost max settings

Runs games such as Rainbow Six Siege at max settings.

Can it run Crysis? Yes!

Would not recommend
There are issues with the cooling and although this laptop has lasted me more than 2 years without any serious issues, there is a lot of thermal throttling. Although this has improved with the purchase of a £100 cooler! It's an absolute joke that I had to buy such an expensive external cooler for an already expensive laptop!

There is an additional NVME SSD slot, however you have to open the entire laptop to install a new SSD which isn't something that everyone is comfortable doing, there's no bloody easy access slot on the bottom! I was pissing myself since that was my first time opening a laptop. Stick with Desktops to save your pain and suffering, even if gpus are more expensive.

VR

VR Headset: Meta Quest 2
Paired with a ASUS RT-AX55 Wifi 6 Router.
Works great for wireless PCVR.

Recommended software for Wireless PCVR

Windows:

Virtual Desktop
You have to buy it on the Meta Store but it provides a better and more tweakable experience compared to Airlink. Please make a Linux version, even if it's proprietary I will still use it.

Only negative with VD is that you have to download Meta's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bloatware to use it, idk why but it's still much better than Airlink.

Linux:

WiVRn/Monado
Monado has a few extra features but also implements WiVRn for Wireless PCVR.
It has better performance compared to ALVR but works with less games compared to ALVR.

Windows + Linux (Cross OS):

ALVR
Pretty much compatible with every VR game I have on Steam, it's Free and Open Source and has good performance with most games. Good alternative to Airlink and VD for Windows users if you don't wanna install the 20gb of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bloatware that Meta gets you to install.

Only negative is that it relies fully on SteamVR which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it would be nice to see a custom runtime to improve performance similar to VDXR and WiVRn as standalone SteamVR causes performance issues in some games even on Windows.

Peripherals & Reviews

Mouse: Logitech G502
https://amzn.to/2L0nZfA
Positives:
- Drivers not required (apart from changing DPI and lighting)
- Onboard Memory, saves your settings in case you switch PC's a lot
- Good sensors
- Comes with weights so you can change the weight of the mouse to make it lighter or heavier

Mousepad: Titanwolf Large

Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB MK.2
Great mechanical keyboard, it has a metal base and is very durable. Only issue is that the switches are soldered directly to the board so you cannot replace them which I find quite annoying.
Positives:
- Good switches
- Comfortable typing
- Good response time
- Drivers not required for basic functionality
- Works well with the open source CKB-Next driver on Linux
Negatives:
- The switches are soldered on to the board so changing them will be difficult.
- The ICUE Windows drivers are occasionally buggy and might require reinstallation which can be very difficult at times due to their uninstaller not working as intended.

Monitors:

Is it worth going from 1080p to 1440p? 100% I have noticed a big difference in texture quality and general details in the distance in games.

LG UltraGear 27GL83A-B (2k 144hz)
More expensive than other options but has good colour accuracy and no dead pixels so far. Don't buy cheap monitors!
Positives:
- Colour accuracy is good
- Compatible with AMD Freesync and Nvidia GSync
- No dead pixels
- Good latency and refresh rate
- HDR
- 2k 2560x1440 resolution
- Good screen size for more immersion and visual quality
- A good reputable brand
- IPS Display
Negatives:
- Expensive

AOC Gaming 24G2U (144hz)
Good secondary monitor with decent colour accuracy.
Positives:
- Good for an entry level setup
- Compatible with AMD Freesync and Nvidia GSync
- 144hz refresh rate
- No dead pixels
- Competitive price
- A good reputable brand
- IPS Display
Negatives:
- 23 Inch, too small for some people

AOC E2470Sw
https://amzn.to/2KYGDV1
Standard monitor which I usually have vscode on, works for basic things, nothing special.
Positives:
- Has lasted me 8 years without any issues
- Good for a cheap extra monitor for anything that doesn't need good colour accuracy
- No dead pixels so far
Negatives:
- 60hz refresh rate (too slow)
- TN panel
- Bad latency (Not recommended for competitive gaming)
- 23 inch, too small but not bad if you use it for an extra display

Microphone: Blue Yeti
https://amzn.to/2yLlEiZ
Expensive but very reliable, I bought this back in 2016 for £100 and it has lasted me 8 years! Lets hope it can reach 10.
- Very durable
- Very good build quality
- Very good sound quality
- Lasts long if you take care of it
- Easily attaches to most microphone stands
- No drivers required

Headphones: Corsair Void Pro
Overall a good buy
Positives:
- Wireless so you don't need to worry about a broken cable ruining your headset & very reliable connection with no noticeable sound latency.
- Good battery life
- Good sound quality, also includes virtual 7.1 surround sound
Negatives:
- The right ear cup has started coming off so I have to occasionally put it back, not the best build quality but hardware wise it's good.
