The endings were a bit anti-climactic, yeah.
Something about the last section of the game and that last chamber didn't really do the rest of the game justice imo.
I agree with you on telling the story through notes, but i found them pretty easy to find in my playthrough, although i did explore every possible route before moving on and i chucked stuff around to see if something could be underneath it.
I recently played and finished SOMA, idk if you've played that but i think you might really like it, it has a much more comprehensible story and satisfying conclusion.

Yeah now that you say it I did read those notes about Salim, will remove that from the review!

I figured the motives were hidden in notes, however when it's such a crucial element to the plot I feel that should be told through the narrative and not through notes though.

I did like the game while playing it but when finishing the game it just felt like a big dissapointment, thought there would be more sadly.

Hey man nice review on amnesia rebirth, i honestly really liked it myself.
As for 2 of your unawnsered questions; The empress wants a baby as described in notes found earlier on somewhere around the quartermaster building, describing her as a mother spirit. It is also hinted that she became infertile or had a miscarriage in the alien bits when you look at medical records and stuff.
As for Salim it's mentioned on multiple occasions that he's heavily wounded and has a lot of trouble carrying on. Somewhere in the first cave they've been in there is a note mentioning they have to flee because there is some "creature" so he probably died from his injuries while on the move.
As for the sped up pregnancy i'm still curious myself, but maybe that is mentioned somewhere too?
Figured i'd share this so you at least know about those 2 though.
