You'll play this game for the story. It's very easy to immerse yourself in it, totally captivating, supported by a soundtrack that hits hard. Combat is fun, too.

To be honest I lack the words to properly describe Nier: Automata.

It's easily one of the best games I ever played, if not the best.

I can see why this is one of the highest rated free games in terms of reviews.

Just finished my 1st playthrough. It's a beautiful little game with a touching story and fun gameplay, even though it's not that hard.

Okay, let's review this properly and not just write "Blood for the Blood God" lol.

"They Bleed Pixels" is what would have happened if Howard Phillips Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe collaborated to remake Super Mario Land and the devs nailed it! Awesome!

The game isn't that big, but it makes up for it with its unforgiving difficulty. Yeah sure I didn't play that much yet, but you immediately feel trapped inside a nightmare just by game design. ♥♥♥♥ those icy plates that make your girl slide into spikes.

The art style is awesome and the fact that you unlock artworks with your achievements shows that there's much love and dedication in it. It fits that mood of "Lovecraftian nightmare" perfectly which is also underlined constantly by that great soundtrack and in particular at the start of every chapter with a quote of an author that inspired the game and especially that chapter. You can feel that the devs *love* their literature.

Also the game's combat might be pretty minimalistic, but you can easily learn how to make some awesome combos and get rewarded with totally over the top gore. Khorne would be proud.

I highly recommend this game.

Mich faszinieren die Einheiten hier viel mehr als "lebensechte Gesichter" in neuen Teilen, die bloß herumspacken. Das Interface ist klar und verständlich, die Kampagnenkarte erinnert an ein Brettspiel. Es ist simpel, aber es wirkt.

+ eine bessere deutsche Übersetzung als Med 2

Ja, wirklich! 😅🇩🇪 Außerdem sind die Hintergrundtexte und strategischen Empfehlungen in der Fraktionsauswahl großartig. So detailliert waren sie danach nie mehr.

+ die beste Hintergrundmusik der gesamten Reihe

Der Soundtrack von Rome 1 und Med 2 ist schon gut, aber der von Med 1 übertrifft beide bei weitem. Er trifft in der Schlacht stets die richtige Stimmung und die Tracks des Menüs und der Kampagnenkarte müssten sich mittlerweile in mein Ohr gefressen haben.

+ einfache Mechaniken

Die Spielmechaniken sind leicht verständlich, einfach zu lernen und erlauben viele Experimente. Keine Taktik ist perfekt - oder falsch. Und keine Armee ist "meta".

+ eine Kombination aus verschieden Gebäuden ist erforderlich, um bestimmte Einheiten auszubilden

Das ist bloß logisch! Dieser eine Punkt, der vereinfacht wurde, fehlt mir in jedem folgenden Spiel der Serie.

+ die Fraktionen scheinen geradezu für den Mehrspielermodus optimiert zu sein

Eine Schlacht in Med 1 braucht keine Regeln. Jede Seite ist spielbar, jeder Seite kannst du einen eigenen Charakter geben.

+ ganz viel Nostalgie... 🙈😁

+ es ist tatsächlich ein Total War

Ritter in strahlenden Rüstungen! Kämpfe mit tausenden kleinen, verpixelten Männchen! Du kannst einen Wikinger spielen oder einen Kreuzfahrer! Der Deutsche Orden ist auch dabei! Das hat mich schon mit 8, 9 Jahren fasziniert und tut es noch immer. ❤

FAZIT:

Med 1 brauch sich vor seinen "großen Brüdern" Med 2 und Rome 1 nicht zu verstecken, es ist ein Spiel, das leider mit der Zeit vergessen zu worden scheint, unterstrichen von technischen Schwierigkeiten und eines schlechten Zugangs zum Mehrspieler heutzutage. Hol' dir

und mach' eine Diskussion im Communityhub auf, in der du nach Mitspielern fragst. Du wirst es nicht bereuen.

My 1st Total War, it's been 15, 16 years... and it's still amazing!

+ appealing pixel wars

Those simple graphics fascinate me much more than any "realistic faces" that bug out in newer titles. The interface is easy to understand, the campaign map reminds me of a cardboard game. It's simple, but it works.

+ a better German translation than Med 2

Yes, I'm serious! Also these info texts about every faction and suggested strategies in the faction selection menu are just great! They have never been as good ever since.

+ the best soundtrack of the series

Rome 1's and Med 2's soundtrack may be awesome, but Med 1 supasses both of them by far. It always fits your mood in a battle and those menu and campaign map tracks must have burned themselves into my ear by now.

+ easy mechanics

The game mechanics are easy to understand, easy to learn and allow for many experiments. No strategy is perfect - or wrong. And no army is "meta".

+ a combination of different buildings is required to recruit certain units

That's just logical! I miss this one thing that got streamlined in every other title.

+ the factions seem to have been optimized for multiplayer battles

An MP battle of Med 1 doesn't need rules. Every faction is playable, every faction may have its own character.

+ a whole lot of nostalgia...

+ it's indeed a "Total War"

Knights in shining armour! Battles with 1000s of smol, pixelated combattants! You may play as a Viking or Crusader! The Teutonic Order is in this, too! This amazed me when I was 8, 9 years old and still does so today.

CONCLUSION:

Med 1 doesn't need to hide behind its "big brothers" Med 2 and Rome 1, it's a game that unfortunately seems to have gotten lost in time and forgotten, underlined by technical issues and those difficulties to connect to its online MP. Get

TUNNGLE

and start a discussion in its Community Hub asking for opponents. You won't regret it.

Gutes Kampfsystem, ansprechende Charaktere, mitreißende Handlung - und der Schwierigkeitsgrad unterstreicht das noch.

Ich kann nichts zur Umsetzung auf Steam etc. sagen, da ich es nie auf einer anderen Plattform gespielt habe, aber vom Spiel selbst bin ich begeistert.

Auf Empfehlung meines Bruders gezockt und ich bin ihm sehr dankbar dafür ;)

Großartiges Partyspiel, wir kringelten uns wortwörtlich vor Lachen auf dem Boden! :)
