Insurgency: Sandstorm is a great entry point into "Hardcore Tactical Shooters". PvP and PvE are both incredibly fun and the gunplay is some of the best you will ever experience. However, be advised that content has been incredibly dry recently with just one new map, four new weapons, and a new PvP mode introduced this year. Still, there are many mods and community servers that can refresh the gameplay for you if you find things to get stale.

The horrors of war right next to the beauty of nature. Isonzo is worth it if you want to learn about a hardly covered part of WW1 or take in the sights of the alps while trying not to get shot. Most of the WW1 series games tend to have a low player count, but there have always been bots to make up for it. There are still plenty of active players right now, so if you want to play against real people, now would be the best time to get it.

I play both Battlefield V and Team Fortress 2. The bot crisis in TF2 is terrible, but its still possible to salvage a match by kicking any bots that join. You can't do that in BFV. Once a hacker/bot joins the game, that's it. Unless you're on a community server with an admin, the only thing you can do is leave. You can expect to find a hacker in 8/10 official games. Community servers on the other hand, have some of the most unbelievably boring rules, going as far as to ban any weapon that isn't an assault rifle or SMG (IN A WW2 GAME).

If you're looking for a decent and well polished Battlefield experience with significantly less hackers, more reasonable admins, and immersive gameplay, get Battlefield 1.

Team Fortress 2 for history nerds

WWII, co-op, smart AI, mod support (runs on Source), gritty realism, and awesome gunplay. Even if you cant find a server with people on it, its still great fun on singleplayer. There's still a LOT of potential with this game in terms of expansions, and I hope NWI finds a way to revive it. Making it FREE would be a great start, and adding in realistic cosmetics/customization could be a good alternate monetization scheme.

I plan to stick around, hope some of you drop by on the co-op servers!
