Chapter 2 continues Higurashi's trend of telling you a story as it slowly descends you into complete and utter insanity.

You'll get some answers in Ch. 2 which where brought up in Ch. 1 but, you'll be left with more questions by the time it's done.

I absolutely love it!

While Higurashi falls under the visual novel tag in steam, it's actually a "Sound Novel" since there are no choices to be made during game play and the ambient noise and music makes up much of the atmosphere. You simply read and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

It's challenging to review the game/story without spoiling anything, and I have only played chapter 1 and the prologue of chapter 2 so far, so I'll rather say if you:

• Are curious about the series and VN type games in general.
  
• Interested in the 2020 anime reboot.
  
• Watched the 2004 anime and wanted more.
  
• Enjoy reading manga.

Then Higurashi comes highly recommended.

What I liked:
- Amazing turn based tactical shooter.
- Great game play and challenges, which make you think more tactically.
- A Loveable cast of unique and fun characters.
- Beautiful water colour visual style.

What I disliked:
- Easy to cheese at times.
- Can be a little too punishing at times which can be somewhat frustrating.
- Some annoying game design problems; inability to restart the round from the menu thus, forcing you to go back to book mode in order to do so. unskippable game cut scenes and (sometimes) dumb enemy movement which can make rounds feel a lot longer.
- Deployment phase map is lacking in detail.

Final thoughts:

A truly unique and classic game. If you have played VC4 then this will feel like a couple of steps back in terms of game design. I'd also recommend watching the anime if you loved the story. It fleshes out some characters a lot more as well as adds in a lot between chapters.

What I liked:

• Plethora of servants to choose from.
  
• Lengthy campaign.
  
• Fun game play and mechanics. Each servant plays differently with their own unique attacks and combo's.
  
• Fan service!

What I disliked:

• Story can be confusing, boring and lengthy times. Specifically to those who are new to the FATE series.
  
• Game play and story can be somewhat repetitive if you playing for longer periods.
  
• It's playable on a keyboard but, much easier with a controller.
  
• A little too easy at times unless you switch up to hard which then offers real challenges.

Final thoughts:

A sold Dynasty Warriors clone with plenty of fun to be had. Just a bit boring in the latter half of the story. If you love FATE, anime, and colourful characters and hack-n-slash type games, then you'll probably enjoy this.

Mod it till it crashes, then mod it again, and again... Then when you think it is stable... mod it some more! 11/10.
