Whether you've played the first game or not, this game is amazing. While it might seem a bit threadbare at the moment (Which it's not, you can lose track of time so easily just delving into this and trying to get just that little bit further, get that last unlock you need), the developers are releasing more updates including characters, levels, items, and plenty of secrets. If you like roguelikes, shooters, and games you can play with your friends, pick this up!
