I'm not going to start off with a lie, so here goes, the first time I played this game I HATED it, I didn't understand the appeal, wasn't a huge fan of the art style and hated the controls, it looked and played like a cross between Robotron-X and Zelda.

However, a friend of mine convinced me to try it again and give it a chance, and I can never thank him enough for that, once I got over my initial misgivings about the game, I found instead a surprisingly deep title, which pulled me in with it's perfect blend of "just one more go" gameplay and level of difficulty.

It got to the point where I started watching people play this game online, something that I had not done with any other game at that time, and it is consistently one of the only games I will still watch others play, not because it's fun to watch the better players out there, but because there's so much to learn, watching a streamer play this is more akin to research, what makes a good item synergy? How do you go about unlocking item X, Y or Z? and so on.

So here we are with a paltry 65 hours played and Steam is asking for a review, well, let me put it to you this way, I hated it when I first played it right? Last count I have 65 hours clocked on Steam, but over 500 hours clocked on the PS4 and around 100 hours on the Vita, this game is that good that I bought it on a PC that couldn't even run it, just so I could get into it when I finally upgraded the machine, I bought the physical PS4 version, despite getting the digital version free through PS+, I've bought all of the available DLC TWICE (PC and PS4), not only that I've bought the card game, dice, playmat and expansion!

I've made models of the characters out of Polymer clay and at one point, ran the highest populated community for the game on the PS4.

Not bad for a game that I hated huh?

I could spend the time here going into detail about how the game plays, but after being out for so long, it's unlikely that anyone new is going to read this and be swayed by a review, all I'll say is, if you're on the fence, give this game a try, if you hate it, try it again and maybe once more for luck it might just turn out to be your favourite title of all time, I know it's one of mine.

I've been a fan of the Isaac series for a while now and as much as I like it, I also love my puzzle games like Gems of War, this is a perfect match of Isaac, Strategy and puzzling. If you're on the fence about this game, I would highly recommend watching someone play it for a while before making up your mind as it's not a game that will be for everyone, but personally, I really enjoy it.
