This release is really weak. It feels like more of an Alpha than the Alpha version itself did.

Lets break it down:

- Only 4 classes and a few races.
This one's real weird. NPCs you can find in towns and around the world have other classes and other races, like Pirate, Jester, Necromancer etc. However, the players aren't allowed to play these races and I don't understand why.

- New zones reset your gear/stats to 0.
So this game is divided into zones. This would be cool and all, if not for the fact that walking into a new zone sort of makes your gear "inactive", unless you're in the zone where you found it. Got 1500 health and weapons that deal 120 damage per attack? Think again, new zone, you have 200 health and deal 0.4 damage. The devs say its "so exploration feels new and fresh again and again", though outside of delusion-world it does the exact opposite.

- XP, Skill tree and character progression is gone.
Crab rave time. Yep, it's all gone. All of the things that make open world RPG characters interresting have now been poofed into the void. We had it in the alpha, but for reasons unbenounced to man they are no longer here. This, together with the gear resetting per zone, makes progression increeeedibly redundant.

- The game lacks an overlying story arc and meaningful lore.
The thing that makes open world games like The Witcher 3 and Zelda: BOTW fun are that you have some big goal or story line to strive towards, but you're given free reigns to take every side path and secondary objective before you get there. A game like this needs some form of direction for the player to follow, if not, players have no drive to keep going, and will get burned out fast. As is Cube World's case, it's pretty much moved away from an adventure RPG, and rather become a sandbox game, where even the sandboxing is limited. (No breaking blocks, no building etc.)

- Balance is out of wack.
Some monsters deal no damage, others one-shot. Some monsters become chaff before the wind on your road to conquest, whilst others you can't even damage because you need certain levels of gear before even denting them. This all makes it hard to relate to your character and the game world, and again build in to the slew of progression issues this game presents.

- Dungeons, buildings and towns feel dead.
Generated buildings contain extremely little furniture and because of other factors like lack of lighting and ambience, feel incredibly dead. Walking into a building that's supposed to be a graveyard chapel (which doesn't even look like one) and seeing it's inside furnished with one gray bench over in a corner, a gray bookshelf on the middle of a wall, and if you're lucky, a gray fireplace; it doesn't feel impressive at all, and makes you completely lose immersion and interrest in whatever this building is.
Same goes for dungeons, which might as well be a chain of isolation cells, and towns, where every facade-less, roof-less unfurnished house is a carbon copy of the last. I'll say it again, generated structures in Cube World are dull and expressionless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are at least some of the many qualms I have with this game as it stands right now. There are certainly more criticisms to dish out, but these are the most severe ones that hinder your initial enjoyment of the game.
Though I am sure this game has potential to be a great game in the future, I, as many others, cannot in good spirits recommend the game in it's current state. Here's to hoping Picroma manages to pull this game back up from the bog before it's too late.

Thank you, Reader.

I picked Stardew Valley up when it first started getting popular. A few of my friends had just bought the game, and I thought the game looked really cute, so I did as well. Let me just tell you, that might have been one of the best decisions of my life.

This game is more of a lifestyle than a game. Everything feels so good, from working your farm, to standing still for 15 minutes doing nothing but fishing. Planting and nourishing your crops, interracting with the NPC's and engaging in cute events all makes this game the world to me. So many days and nights were spent having an absolute blast, and I felt like this game really touched my heart. I felt genuinely excited when the NPC's liked the gifts I gave them for their birthday. I was intrigued mining further and further down the caves. I was scared when hearing noises in the night, and I felt genuine joy and togetherness during the seasonal events.
I don't think any other game has ever hit home for me in such a way, and I hope everyone at some point gets the pleasure of immersing themselves in this absolute gem of a game.

Thank you Chucklefish, for granting me this amazing, humbling and heartwarming experience. Thank you so very much.
