The base game has a lot of variety, a lot of maps and a LOT of fun. Even more so with friends.
The modding community, however? That's a completely new layer on this chocolate cake... and it's good!
REALLY good (brushing past all the memes of course).
There are a lot of talented creators out there (Lt. Rocky just to name one of many) that have put in their time and effort all for free for the user. They deserve recognition and praise for all their efforts.

This game is really creative and fun on its own, but when you add mods to it, you add an extra layer of your choosing onto it, making it your own personal experience. What's more interesting, is how easy it is to modify music and sounds in the game and making it into .vpk files. You can even make your own mods and publish them on the workshop! It's good fun and very inspiring to see all the creativity.
