A great game to sit down and play with a friend while you wait for your Pizza to arrive.

Vermintide 2. This game is fun, very fun in fact and I can recommend it if you have a buddy or 2 to play it with.

However!

The game does not feel finished yet, it feels like a beta.

But I'll describe the game to let you know what it is.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a Cooperative first person medieval fighting game set in the Warhammer universe (which I know very little about) in which you have to fight your way through 13 different maps in the quest for loot and glory.

The game plays a lot like Left 4 Dead, but focusing much more heavily on melee combat as the setting is in the fantasy Warhammer universe. It is a sort of horde survival game in which you traverse a level, fighting large anthropomorphic ratmen and nordic Nurgle worshippers, to complete an objective whilst, occasionally, large hordes of enemies will spawn in to attack you.

The game is split into 3 acts with 4 levels each, 3 objective levels and 1 boss level, before ending in one large boss level.

I'm not a great graphics buff so I will let you come to your own conclusions with this side by side. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/234440605470556160/482283040115130370/Vermintide.png

While the game is very fun, especially with friends, it is plagued by a few issues.

First of all, it's quite glitchy and seems a little poorly optimised as even on the lowest graphical settings the game tends to chug whenever too many enemies are on screen, which there will be a lot.

Flickering textures, glitchy ragdolls, floating enemies and enviroment objects, fidgety item pickup hitboxes, many spots on the maps where you can either skip large parts of the level or stand in complete safety from almost anything and I swear the blocking only works 50% of the time.

Secondly, the maps in the game start feeling the same after multiple playthroughs and with the somewhat small amount of maps you will play through the same ones over and over again, though they try to spice it up with some maps having some small differences, like alternating paths to take, it does not stop the game from quickly becoming repetitive and I know the point of the game is to play the maps over and over to improve but the maps themselves seem quite similar to eachother as most of the objectives come down to A: Find powder barrels to fill a cart and then excort it or B: go to a place and hold the E key on the highlighted object or C: Go to a place and survive for a minute or so then done. The only levels to really break the mold of this are the boss levels and the last level and even then, they also all play the same.

But I do recommend the game, but I'd say buy it on sale and make sure you have at least one friend to play with, it is immensly fun with friends and even quite fun on your own. It is a very difficult but fair, in most cases, game. The combat is responsive and bloody, the weapons feel heavy and every hit lands with a satisfying crunch or slash and chopping your way through a horde feels great, the personalities of the 5 playable characters are funny and varied, constantly throwing funny jokes and interesting conversations at you as you slice your way through the levels.

It is a challenging bloody funny hack and slash which I can recommend, if you have friends.
