Creative and fun riff on the "who done it" game genre. Controls and UI are really well thought out and intuitive. Gameplay is super slick and simple but doesn't lack depth. There's no voting like in Among Us, which makes each round as the bad guy a race to find a weapon or slow down progress as much as possible. I've got 9 hours into it and it's been an absolute treat to play when the whole squad is online at the same time. I highly recommend it to anyone with a friend group who likes playing party games or games like this.

Devs, if you're reading this, add a bundle price! Like, 4 copies of the game for a discount or something. This would make it super easy for someone to peer pressure friends to get into the game (like me, I'm someone).

To preface the following, I'm a long time Fallout fan. I'm also a long time critic of Bethesda as a game studio. Like many, Fallout 3 was my gateway, then New Vegas, then the original games. Fallout 4 was not great, but since this isn't a review for Fallout 4 I'll skip over that. There's my context so if it's similar to yours, you'll be more likely to agree with my take-aways.

The game as it exists today, is not the game as it existed when it released. If you were a day 1 players and quit because, well, it was bad. Give it a try again. Make a new character, start fresh, and check it out. I came back and put 250 hours back into the game, getting further than I did on release. There's significantly more content, the game runs better, the community is great, the stories and quests are well written (albeit short). If you haven't played before and are on the fence, I'll dive into the pros and cons.

The leveling experience is pretty great. Compared to other "MMORPG's" (which I struggle to call this but that's what it's trying to be), is great. Exploring the world for the first time is a great experience and the map is by far my favorite in the new style Fallout games. Locations all have their own little stories. Walking into a building and looking at what's left there and piecing together the story is fun to me and this game does this so well. The world building and story telling is top notch. There's significantly more role playing opportunities here vs Fallout 4, even with it being essentially the same engine.

The gunplay is low tier at best, but the weapons are zany and fun and the customization and class building is excellent. The new perk system is super flexible so you're able to change on the fly. And I recommend you do. If you get a new gun from a quest, try it out. Respec and mod it and try it. Changing up the guns you use makes the game feel fresh.

Settlement building in Fallout 4 was a useless addition to the game, but here it's iterated on and kind of essential. It's a fun break in the gameplay loop of looting, shooting, scooting. The map is gorgeous and finding a little spot to make your own is a fun breather. It also gives you a place to get buffs, scrap and store gear, repair, etc. And when you setup a store, it'll generate foot traffic where you can force some interaction with other players (which you should absolutely do). The community is great and you're missing out if you leave your mic on mute and just don't talk to anyone or stay private. Talk, role play, help each other out, ask questions. Some of the coolest moments of the game for me has been just chilling at camp when a stranger comes to say hi, or vice versa.

The bad, post level 100, things get stale. You'll be doing dailies, grinding the battle pass, and hopping between events. Unlike lots of other MMO's, the end game isn't the meat and potatoes. I think they've got a problem to solve with keeping players engaged. Their changes to the early game are phenomenal, it's sad to see so few people make it to level 50 and I think the new changes will help that if people come back. The end game is a grind-fest. Rinse and repeat to make your numbers bigger. There's very little to move towards. I'd rather they gate events and expeditions and stuff behind level requirements that are higher to keep them from getting stale early.

At $40, if you're a Fallout fan I think you'll easily get your money's worth of entertainment out of it. I hit 150ish hours without feeling a bit of stale-ness. Around 200-250 hours it starts setting in. But exploring the map, doing all the quests, etc is well worth $40.

If you already own the game, try it again. Costs nothing but time, and I think it's leaps and bounds better than it was on launch.

I grew up with problem solving and story games, my favorite would be the point and click LucasArts ones like Escape From Monkey Island. When I saw this game for the first time on a 15 minutes YouTube video I immediately took to it. Especially because I love the outdoors as well.

Well, 5 hours through it and the game is over. It's a very short game. And unfortunately there's 0 replay value, as the story is linear with only 1 ending. The 5 hours I got were some of the best and most exciting 5 hours of videogaming I've ever had. The game is beautfiul. A very artistic blend between natural and cell shadded gorgeousness. The soundtrack is stellar and I reccommend buying it with the game if you are big into soundtracks (I am).

This game brough some interesting mechanics to the table and did a wonderful job implementing them. The level design was awesome and the story was captivating. Some other reviews say it dropped off at the end. I disagree. I was leaning closer and closer to my screen throughout the game. 3 minutes in I couldn't help but tear up and 10 minutes from the credits rolling I felt chills down my spine and my heart was pounding. This was a glorious success for Campo Santo.

I cannot give this game full marks however, I really wish it would've been longer, I wish the game didn't end so abruptly (you get 0 closure), and I wish your actions in the game influenced the ending. For 6 hours (absolute max if you explore EVERYTHING like me), I feel a little cheated out of $23 (DLC soundtrack price). If you're on the fence wait for the Summer Sale, you won't regret this game. If you have a few extra bucks to spend buy it now. Just don't expect a long dynamic game. DO expect a beautiful environment, splendid voice acting, a captivating story, and a heart wrenching soundtrack.

I saw some friends playing this and thought, what the hell, it's free. I downloaded without any prior knowledge of the game, what it was or what it looked like.

As soon as I got to the start screen I laughed. It looked so terrible (keep reading). The tutorial wasn't any better. Lack of shading on the solid color block objects makes depth preception hard, things don't look near as creative or nice as MineCraft and the tutorial left ALOT of things out.

If you're still reading, that's the last negative thing I have to say. I loaded up Hamachi and jumped on my friend's server, and played it for maybe 6 straight hours. The map is small, but there's plenty to explorer and scavenge. Lots of neat hidden places too! Lots of cool and well thought out items to pick up and even weapon mods and ammo varients.

The crafting is very intense. More so than any other crafting game I've played. It takes awhile to make a chest or something like that, but when you do you feel accomplished. The house building is cool and there's lots of different things to do to make a sweet pad to kill zombies from.

I was initially not impressed with anything in the game, but once you jump in and play, you'll have fun. And remember, it's in Alpha and a dude probably 6 years younger than you is making it. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

This game is the bee's knees. It gets a lot of $h|t because it's in alpha, and a lot of people don't understand that. I've seen full games that have less bugs than this (believe it or not). Its a beautiful game if you have a rig that can handle it. If not, optimization will be coming sooner or later. Have clocked 200 hours on the game and will gladly clock 200 more!
