I mean, great game. I'm completely addicted. Nearing 3K hours so we'll see where this ends up, I guess.

Was thinking about actually making a serious review, but I'm too lazy lmao.

(Maybe I might actually make a new one that's more detailed and way better, or just edit this one, we'll see.)

Edit after over 5K hours: This is my favorite fighting game, AND overall game of all time, and that will probably never change.

Edit 2, actual review (wow, the prophecy is finally fulfilled):

I must admit that going back and seeing this review again now after all this time is somewhat embarrassing. I'm definitely no longer addicted, as after 7.4K hours, I have now finally reached the point of completely fulfilling the sunk-cost (time, in this case) fallacy, and effectively reversing it.

I obviously still play the game and enjoy it very much, but would *not* say that I am addicted (anymore), nor that it is a perfect game; it has amazing depth, a lot of my friends VERY much enjoy the story, the art is great, characters are very unique (gameplay-wise) from one another (for the most part), movement and mechanics feel very fluid and engaging (again, for the most part).

I played in a lot of tournaments (mostly netplay/online brackets), and got many fairly impressive results, with my most recent notable achievement being getting 3rd at Combo Breaker 2024 for BBCF. (Obviously I wanted more/better than that (in my view, you don't compete if you aren't trying to *win*), but at the same time it fulfilled enough of my ambition to sate my addiction almost entirely, while still leaving me feeling slightly unhappy/empty about it afterwards, unfortunately).

I both used to have a lot more free time and use a much higher percentage of it playing this game than I do now, which contributes a lot to me playing it less these days.

After the rollback netcode update, good connections got better, and bad connections got (arguably) worse, and as of right now (and for the past little while), online tournaments are experiencing regular difficulties with people not being able to connect to lobbies or fight specific people, which is probably a Steam/PC port issue. It's annoying and inconvenient, but not enough for me to change my review about it.

Overall, still really enjoy the game, but I could actually see myself changing my opinion about it being the 'best game of all time' for me, at some point.
