This is it, chief.
This is the game that gave me hope for open-world games.
Elden Ring has managed provide hundreds of hours of content without the monotonous BS that other open-world games do.
Skyrim BTFO

The Good:
-Combat in general feels great. I have had no issues with hits connecting. The weapons feel like they should; bigger weapons don't just mean bigger damage. Lighter weapons such as katanas and daggers don't stagger enemies, but things like greatswords and hammers do. Making you choose between speed and strength. The Ash of War variety makes playing around with different weapons a lot more fun.

-AI is nuts sometimes; I mean that in a good way. Some enemies will wait for you to try and heal/cast spells before they take a stab at you. They will dodge and block projectiles very well too.

-World design is absolutely breathtaking; Each area and the enemies within them are unique in appearance (mostly). Being able to go from "peaceful" ol' Limgrave to the nightmarish hellscape that is Caelid very early on is the most terrifying thing in this game. The sudden shift in atmosphere, the music, and the change in enemies feels very much inspired by Berserk. I love it.

-A lot of the dungeon designs are great: Obviously, there is a lot of reused assets with them, but the puzzles within the areas themselves are a breath of fresh air. There was one dungeon that stood out to me in particular; They realize people don't wanna be able to just run through a dungeon. It is too straighforward. So, what they did was implement some Silent Hill PT-style mapping that makes some areas "wrap" around with little things changed here and there.

-NPCs are pretty memorable: This game does a great job of getting you attached to these characters and their endeavors. You'll encounter many of them several times throughout your progression and it is always a relief to find another living thing that is not trying to kill you. Mostly...
Even the one-off NPCs are great. The ones that I personally love are the Jellyfish sisters. Hands-down the most beautiful moment in the game.

-New Game+ is great: I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to games like this. So being able to continue and play through it again with the same character to get missed items is right up my alley. Of course, the enemies get tougher with each tier of NG+, but they also drop more runes which makes it quicker for you to level your skills more.

The Bad:
I genuinely think this is one of the best games I have ever played and quickly became favorite of mine. That said, it is not without problems.
Caveat before you start fondling FromSoft's nutsack; a lot of the following is my opinion and not fact.

-Performance: Yes, I know FromSoft isn't the best at optimizing their PC ports. It still should not be acceptable for them to leave the game a stuttering mess. Like many others, I played the entirety of this game while stuttering every few minutes. If you did this too, then you know how incredibly annoying and disheartening it is to be moments away from beating a boss when you suddenly get slapped with a stutter in the middle of the boss' attack, where timed dodges are crucial. Several areas also suffer from extreme FPS drops, obviously drawing inspiration from Blighttown in DS1.

-Large enemies are not as big of a threat... when compared to the camera: When you use melee weapons to fight an enemy substantially larger than you, you'll find yourself not using the target lock function because it will almost never be aimed at where you will be hitting. This is especially the case with the dragons.

-Oh, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dragons: Arguably the most unfun enemies in this game next to damn birds. (Could it be a coincidence that I hate all the enemies with wings?) Dragons have the annoying tactic of flying away and crop-dusting an area with their breath attacks. The problem isn't the attack itself, but the fact that sometimes is lingers a little too long and counts as 2 separate hits. 1 hit alone does massive damage; 2 hits is an insta-kill for someone like me who doesn't invest all their points into vigor.

-One-shot attacks are not good game design: Like I said, I don't put over 40 points into vigor. Why? I don't believe my health bar should be on par with that of a boss. It looks ridiculous and makes fighting enemies that don't one-shot you a lot less fun/challenging. Sure, they keep those one-shot attacks mostly tied to bosses, but it still doesn't make them challenging. A challenge would be several attacks to overwhelm you and deteriorate your health over time. Not a single near-unavoidable attack (inb4 "git gud; learn 2 roll". Go see 'Performance').

-Some enemies deal substantially more damage than others: Things like archers, birds and dogs end up dealing more damage per hit that some of the bosses. This type of ♥♥♥♥ break immersion and makes those trash mobs more annoying than they should be.

-NPC quest progression is a chore: If you're familiar with any of the souls games, then you know that properly progressing an NPC's story is damn near impossible without a guide. Nothing is really written out for you, no markers on the map telling you where they'll be next, and if you progress too far in the story before doing necessary steps for the NPC, they'll vanish from your game or die. So be prepared to hug the wiki or guides if you care about the NPC stories.

-Weapon variety is pretty much non-existent in PvP: Sure not many will care about this, but running into the same handful of weapons over and over again when being invaded is so tiresome. I couldn't tell you how many times I have seen Rivers Of Blood being spammed. We get it, man. You're a tryhard, but you're also pathetic.

-Stealth is a half-assed gimmick: You get a tutorial that teaches you to use bushes to hide yourself from enemies, but in pretty much every place afterwards, those bushes are almost non-existent. The only purpose the stealth system serves is to get you easy backstabs... but only once, because every other enemy nearby becomes alert as you're still in the middle of the execution. If you intend to use stealth to sneak past enemies, don't bother. You're better off just running past them like in all previous souls games.

-Platforming: Or lack thereof. Trying to "platform" in this game is just hoping you hit the sweet spot and your character doesn't slip off an edge during their recovery animation. If you fall, you will almost always die due to the game having different scenarios in which a certain height will kill you. Oh, and Torrent's double jump doesn't stop momentum, you'll still die from most heights.

-SPOILER The final boss is such a disappointment.
No, I'm not talking about Radagon, that fight is phenomenal. What I mean is the damn Elden Beast. The arena is gorgeous, but the fight is just a chase if you don't use ranged weapons. It will fly from one end of the arena to the other. Then, when you finally exhaust majority of your stamina to reach it, it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flies away again. When you manage to get it below half health, it casts the orbs of light that chase you and burn your health. You can't outrun them, but you can dodge them very briefly before they swarm you again.

Again this is all my extremely casual souls enjoyer take. I don't "cheese" bosses and don't use unga bunga caveman tank builds. I enjoy a challenge, but I don't enjoy downright lazy design.

Even with all this ranting, I still enjoy the game a lot. In my opinion, this game is a solid 8/10 in its current state. The game can still be polished and balanced. When it does, I will gladly update this review. I may have also missed some things that I will add to this later.

A story about seeking the treasure at the center of the CNPP, but the real treasure was the friends made along the way.

This a recommendation with a caveat,
I put so much time into this game since beta and personally love it, but has some issues:

-Grindy; Requires a lot of time invested to get anything accomplished. Drop-rates for components and mods are abysmal and can take over 20 runs to get all necessary warframe parts from a boss. Crafting wait time can take from 12 hours for weapons and warframe components, to 72 hours for a complete warframe. Crafting also sometimes requires resources only available about halfway into the game or through special events (Nitain extract, I'm looking at you).

-New players WILL be overwhelmed; The [new] tutorial is outdated and doesn't offer much help. Not to mention all the different mechanics introduced since the tutorial was made that are available immediately after completing it. Luckily, most veteran players help out newbies quite a bit in region chat, but for the most part, the game's wiki becomes your best friend.

-Matchmaking is bad; you will experience many disconnects, host migrations, and latency problems. For some reason, the person furthest from civilization will be made host often after migrations. If disconnected while migrating, there is a chance you can lose all xp and loot gathered during that activity.

-Hard on older PCs; the game is constantly evolving, and so are the spec requirements. Although SOME levels are semi-linear, the larger and open-world levels will give you problems if you do not meet the requirements to run the game.

-Lacks end-game content; Most veteran players will often meme and say "fashionframe is endgame" (fashionframe meaning dressing up your warframes with pretty attachments and colors), but the game lacks REAL challenges/content for people who have done all the main content. 'Raids' were there to fill that gap, but were removed due to always breaking with every update (supposedly will be added back).

-Lore and story are filled with holes; This con is not as important to some people, but damn, some of the quests/story missions lack explanation. It's at the point where some Warframe content creators (s/o to StallordD) try to explain/fill in details in the convoluted lore.

With all that out of the way, I still enjoy playing this game. Currently Mastery Rank 28 and have done all the quests available and obtained pretty much everything. The developers listen to a lot of the community's issues (via forums, Reddit, and Twitter) and are still constantly updating the game with bug-fixes and new content; be it new missions/story content, limited time events, new warframes, and weapons.
