They removed the lewd. I like the characters and story, but every time there is character development between the MC and one of the girls it feels like its building up towards nothing. You hit the apex and then they just forget anything happened. What's the point of building a harem full of anime tropes if it doesn't go anywhere? I'm still going to play the next few games in the series but this one so far feels like a bunch of repetitive bait and switches. Hoping the next games are a bit different because I heard they never had lewd to begin with.

I'm super bummed out that I chose to play this instead of the original, I can't even back out of it now because I'm 24 hours into the game.

The first game in the series, 999, is a fun and interesting game with interesting characters and puzzles.
The second game in the series, virtues last reward, is an incredibly boring waste of time, and a downgrade in most ways from the first one. This review may say negative, but I could balance the averages out of both games to a hefty neutral status.

pretty good, pretty sad. If you haven't played it already, try out another VN on steam called "Lucy The Eternity She Wished For." It's korean instead of japanese, but contextually very similar.

this game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of every single JRPG mechanic you could possibly think of. I'm 4 hours in and i'm still being bombarded with tutorial screens every 5 minutes. The tutorials aren't remotely useful either, they explain basic aspects of a mechanic but not when or why anything should be used, Very annoying.

The game is locked to 60fps at 720p and the character sprites are pretty blurry too.

Not as good as Key's games that came before it such as CLANNAD or Little Busters, but it's very good in its own right. It leans way too hard into shonen territory with monster battles and magic stuff. Lucia's route was, by far, the best one.

Way more useful than AMD frame generation.

The voice acting is what keeps me interested in these kind of games. After playing the Evo editions of sky and the new steam ports of crossbell games, it irks me to no end that less than half the dialogue in this game is not voiced, not even the main quest line is, compared to sky. Having to sit there and read for myself filler dialogue for hours is boring as hell and i've fallen asleep playing this game at least twice now. Sky was super fun though and crossbell was alright but not as interesting.
I read that Cold steel 1/2 actually both have MORE dialogue than they used to, because the dubbing team decided it was worth it, and cold steel 3/4 are even more bare bones than this game is. Not really looking forward to it.
Also read Hajimari and Kuro are fairly better off in the voice department so maybe looking forward to those will keep me going through this silent, selective mute filled, snooze fest.
On the flip side, the combat in this one is pretty fun, aside from the school house basement mini bosses being prone to insane difficulty spikes.
All in all, a lot of people recommend you start the trails games here, and I think that's a bad idea. You should go play all of the previous games first to experience what this franchise really has to offer.

The first one was okay, but this one was kind of boring, kinda gave up after one of the puzzles bugged for me and I sat in a room for 30 minutes trying to figure out why nothing was happening.

wish there were more games like this, always loved winter sports and winter sports games. This is one of my favorites alongside We Ski for the Wii.
