I won't glaze this game more than i need to
6.5 hours in and my inventory is full to bursting because every raider I've ran into is friendly
s' pretty good

update:
went to water treatment, looted the locked room, inventory full to bursting
hunted a leaper with a friendly raider
11 hours, finally encountered a hostile raider
got murdered by me, the friendly raider and a wasp
still pretty damn good game

16 hours, two deaths from hostile raiders
then another hour or so of friendlies, including killing a bastion with my hammer
another random raider death
then finally, after 17 full hours, found one toxic raider who killed me.

my hostile raider count has gone from none to 5 in the last 2 days of playing. maybe people are getting sick of being friendly.
word of warning: if someone shoots first, you can assume they won't be swayed the other way.
magdump 'em.

Early Access Review
(updated, 11/2/25)
To preface, I have no experience with the old skate games. I've never played them, because I wasn't cognizant or fortunate enough to have a console during the skate 1-3 era. I've only ever seen gameplay of them, ranging from nostalgic 2012 let's-plays to more recent trick-lining and glitch-hunting.

Anyhow, skate. Is one of the games of all time. It's not terrible, but it could've definitely been so, SO much better.

I came back when season 1 dropped, and then one last time, a little under two weeks ago. It's gotten worse, minus bug fixes. Bugs are what made skate good, so that's a negative anyways.
I've seen more commentary on it, and I've lost my hype-tinted glasses. I really want to love it, but I can't continue to ignore ♥♥♥♥ under the bias of "I've never played the classics, this is the new-age of skate."

Ups:
The skating and flick-it system is fun. Parkour is neat. Definitely a good "oh hey that new game came out and it's free, wanna try it?"

Downs:
It's EA. It feels like a shirt you wanted to buy, but you had to wait for the store to open. When you actually bought it, the rad design had already rubbed off and been hastily re-drawn with sharpie.
The little skater-bux I mentioned have become more rare. You used to be able to get a lootbox after one solo-cleared "pro" challenge. Now, it's more like 3-4.

I recommended you play it on launch. I stand by that. It was buggy, and that's what made it good.
Do I recommend you play it now? No. Play something you enjoy. At most, play it for a few hours, then get bored and move on.
Will I be coming back when everything is supposedly implemented and fixed? Maybe.

I wanted a skate game. I wanted the grunge, the GUNK, the NASTY SICK ♥♥♥♥ that Skate 3 had, but modernized. I got... a game. I got something that felt like it was made from spite. This game at least definitely feels like "you wanted it, you got it!"

Is it Skate 4? No.
Is it skate? yeah.

Is it good? Not by a longshot.
