Many moons ago I put down $30 on a kickstarter for a space sim that sounded a lot like Privateer, my favorite game growing up. That was Star Citizen, and I don't think I'll be alive by the time that game is finished.

A few years later I put down $30 on a EGS exclusive called Rebel Galaxy Outlaw that was exactly like Privateer, and I loved it. Loved being able to travel through space without a joystick, loved the light trading elements, loved the pool mini game even.

A few years later I put down another $30 to play the same game on my Steam Deck, and it played beautifully after a few tweaks. It felt great to get back in the cockpit from the comfort of my bed.

All of that is to say, I've spent almost $100 bucks to relieve my childhood memories of Privateer, and I only think I've wasted $30. This is a fun game that knows exactly what it wants to be and does it well. My only hope is that the devs have a quiet future doing what they love, even if it's not designing games anymore.

If you're a P5 or P5R fan you'll wonder if the new battle system is your cup of tea. Then you'll never see it coming, it just clicks. By the end P5S turns out to be the best Persona spin-off yet. Highly recommended. PC port is in a good state, though the current Beta hotfix does iron out the few crash issues I did encounter.
