Absolutely delightful.

Halls of Torment adds a fantastic later on top of what I assume we're all calling "Survivors-likes". It's extremely focused on tight aiming and careful movement, and can reach nearly bullet-hell levels complexity. The enemy movements are varied and require a lot of moment-to-moment repositioning to not lose your run.

I think the main thing that will be divisive about the game is the lack of empowerment compared to other games in the genre. I don't think I ever reach a point where I could just safely hang back and let my auto-abilities do all the work.

Overall, if you want something with the same level of Skinner box brain-goo as VS, but want to actually play the game after the 20 minute mark, this is it!

Very cute, very smooth, and the price of a cheeseburger!
It's got crisp controls, fun stage layouts, and really punchy audio. Only gripe is the character shadow being stage lighting based, and not a false shadow directly underneath like some 3D platformers have, so there's a bit more camera finagling involved than I'd like.
