Really great game with a lot of 4th wall breaking. Daniel Mullins' games are something special and unique. It's hard to say much without spoiling anything, so I just leave a huge recommendation to buy and try this game yourself.

This game has a lot of great moments, but also some annoying and dull ones. Aesthetics are great, music is also good most of the time. Writing is ok too. I can see why some people do not like it and after 2 hours of playing, I was wondering whether I should try to progress any further after encountering some things that only annoyed me. I did and was rewarded with some really great and memorable moments, but unfortunately, irritating fragments also appear from time to time throughout the whole game. Fortunately, the game barely punishes you for dying (you go to the start of the section which is seconds from where you died and you can respawn instantly), so even the frustrating sections are somehow manageable.

Without these annoyances, the game could be great. It is still good, but they ruin the whole experience a little.

Hence, my feelings are a bit mixed on this one, but I surely will have some pleasant memories from this game and I sincerely recommend it for the good moments alone. You will get through the bad ones and hopefully only the good ones will stick with you for a longer time.

Well, you get what you see from the screenshots. It's a text-based adventure, you talk with various robots while riding Subsurface Circular. Choices do not seem to matter much, there are some minor puzzles and writing is quite good, so overall it is a pleasant experience for the price and its length. Especially recommended if you're a fan of sci-fi, AI and robots.

A lot of depth for such a small and not that popular game. Interesting interactions with environment and other creatures living in the world. Playing as more of a prey than the typical superhero character was also something interesting and the fact that you had to outsmart or escape from the enemies was something refreshing. Overall - the game has its shortcomings, some things are irritating, but it is definitely worth a try, because it presents some new ideas. On the other hand, some of these imperfections add to the theme - life of a prey is not simple and you can never know what's on the other side of some dark tunnel, so random encounters with hard enemies are kind of life-like. Controls could be better too, but again, this strengthens the theme that a lot of times you really have to be almost infallible to survive. There are some other controversial things though that did not add to the theme and only increased difficulty without solid reason to do so. Navigation is definitely one thing that could have been handled better.

Overall verdict: imperfect, but definitely worth checking out.

Pros:
- great mood, graphics
- some interesting moments and creative puzzles

♥♥♥♥:
- a little clunky controls; the character won't always do what you expect of them.
- inconsistent enemy behavior; e.g. deaf enemy can suddenly localize you in a run sequence when you hide
- some annoying deaths due to clunky controls can happen and sometimes they happen at the end of the "scene" and you have to repeat quite a lengthy level that you already almost finished were it not for some stupid slip of controls near the end.
- it is sometimes hard to tell whether you should run, hide, wait or whatever; many moments are hard to get right on the first try which isn't a good thing imo. it should be clearer what to do, not to rely on trial and error that forces a player to repeat a significant part of the level.
- game can put you quite far from the place where you finished after you exit; I had to repeat a few levels after I quit the game, despite some clear checkpoints along the way.

Verdict:
Similar to Inside and Limbo. Worse than these two titles, but also more ambitious when it comes to mechanics. Music and art-style really support the general mood and are on a really high level. 3D comes with a price (comparing to Limbo and Inside), because now it is harder to control your character and developers definitely didn't nail how these controls should work (+ there are more moves - almost all buttons on a gamepad are mapped to some character action). Some frustrating moments, but overall, Little Nightmares is quite a good game. Play if you liked Inside, but if you have not played Inside - play it first.

Nice variation on the Minesweeper with few interesting new ideas. Some are better and some are worse, but overall the game is quite good. Maybe a little too easy for me and many levels become too trivial after you fight through some interesting part in the middle of the level (so for the last minute of the level you mindlessly unveil/mark obvious tiles).

Despite what some reviews/discussions say, there is no luck required. Everything can be figured out and you do not have to guess anything.

I think I recommend Hexcells games more than this, because despite the lower variation of the levels in Hexcells, they presented more interesting challenges and more complex puzzles. Especially Squarecells had levels that required really thorough analysis to figure out how to proceed. Delete presents many more variations on the idea of Minesweeper, but levels are less interesting and simpler. Despite that, it is still an interesting game to play.

What an amazing game. Really short, but the story, music and presentation are on incredibly high level. Despite it being kind of "walking simulator", the gameplay elements are so well done, well paced and mixed with slower story-focused moments so perfectly that it grabs you by surprise when you enter one of them and it's so different and well done. There is no reason not to give this game a try.

It really hurts to give this one a negative review as it is clear that it is a product of love and much work. And some of its aspects are good. But overall experience is not that special and you can see many flaws ruining it. Combat does not feel rewarding at all - there are many enemies at once and they do not present any challenge - you just slash through them and feel like you are wasting your time (boss fights are kind of boring too when you have lots of healing items and can just go all in). In games like DMC or Bayonetta you fight a bunch of enemies, but combos you make are satisfying and enemies are also much more interesting than here.

I also had a feeling that this game is trying to be too much at once. It has metroidvania elements, experience points and leveling up, lots of items, side quests, challenge arenas and probably some more. And most of these elements feel mediocre. Items are kind of meaningless comparing to what you get when you level up. There are a lot of healing items, but you probably will use just one or two (why the developer introduced so many items healing 10 or 20 HP when your character quickly reaches ~400HP or more and you will never use them?). Same goes for wearable items e.g. rings - there are quite a few of them, but they barely differ and you just lose interest in comparing and changing them. You unlock new skills that let you access previously unavailable places like in a metroidvania game, but I felt no incentive to go back to any place I already visited, because I knew that nothing meaningful is waiting there (maybe some item that will make no difference at all?).

I really feel that this game would be better if the developer had cut down some of its elements and focus on perfecting the other. Unfortunately, we got a mix of a lot of ideas with mediocre execution.

ABZU had been in my backlog for a really long time. On one hand, it looked great and had a lot of positive reviews. On the other hand I was a little afraid to play it, because usually I don't like casual/relaxing games and prefer games that present a challenge. But I finally decided to play it and it definitely was a pleasant experience with some really great graphics and music. And indeed, it really was relaxing, not boring as it usually was for me with "casual" games.

I really feel torn on this one. So many people just love it, but somehow I didn't.
Animations, art style and music are really great. I'd almost recommend this game just to see these alone.
But I wouldn't say that I had much fun when I was playing it. And that confused me for a while, because I love challenging games and I love boss fights. Furi was one of the best games I played last year and I'm a huge Dark Souls fan where boss fights were one of my favorite parts. But when I beat a boss in Cuphead I did not feel the satisfaction like in other games. I felt relief that it's finally over.

After watching Mark Brown's video (Game Maker's Toolkit on Youtube) on Cuphead I finally realized why - this is not the game about beating bosses - it's about surviving these fights. And that made a huge difference for me. Cuphead is almost entirely about avoiding attacks, while constantly pressing the fire button. You can just infinitely and mindlessly shoot your gun while trying to survive (bosses take most part of the screen so there is almost no need to aim). It takes away the extra tension that is present in games where you have to find a window for your attack and there is constant "play it safe/attack" dilemma.

When you beat a boss in Dark Souls on low health with no Estus Flasks left, after dodging the attack and finally risking it all to deal the final blow, you just feel great.
In Cuphead there is no healthbar and your attacks are weak (there is no feeling of "I'm so close! I just have to be calm and wait for my chance and hit him 2 more times!"), so when you finally kill the boss, it means that you just survived long enough and this moment of glory is greatly diminished. For me, it diminished it to the point where beating next bosses did not give much pleasure and after 4.6h and beating 4 or 5 bosses on the 3rd Isle, I finally stopped playing.

But hey, almost everyone likes it and I can see why. I just wanted to warn that even if you think you'll love it - you might end up disappointed. Especially if what you love in boss fights is that tension and balancing between defense and offense I wrote about earlier.
