Adorable lil friends. Just catch them and feed your friends back at the village. Nothing to be concerned about. Get everyone to work together again. Don't think about any underlying ramifications. Discover more snax!

Also: when all the NPCs are customisable and appear in a cutscene, 10/10

Solasta is one of the rare DnD games that fees like the memory of Neverwinter Nights, even though there have been numerous games in the genre. On top of this Solasta put a lot of effort into actually encouraging the use of typically background mechanics like lighting, wall walking, jumping, climbing. There is a wonderful focus on different heights and torches in the environment, and seeing the occasional character just decide to live perpendicular to everyone else is a shock.

The story of Solasta is passable. It has all the core pieces of the narrative, but somehow it's missing substance, lore aspects to bite into or reward for exploration and interaction. Many side quests are being asked to return to a place for a client - but even if it's to look closer at the ancient ruins the player doesn't get anything back narratively.

Instead the story is largely carried by the dialogue and banter between your characters. Sometimes commenting on their situation and reacting to each other as they brainstorm. This is a a fun system and brings a lot of life to the game, and the characters' demeanour is determined by their background in creation. It isn't a perfect system however, particularly as the game progresses. It is understandably difficult to fill out every situation and voice them on top of that, but it began to feel the person speaking would be picked randomly and their reaction wouldn't always fit their part in the conversation or what they've said previously. Even had one character just take over lines for another at one point, claiming a heritage belonged to them instead. Still, it shouldn't be understated how much more alive these interactions make the game.

As a bonus to all of this, Solasta includes a nice dungeon maker. While again not flawless and perhaps missing some freedoms, or overall content in just wanting a greater variety of enemies or locations, it is a comfortable tool to allow new stories to be created.

Overall, Solasta lays beautiful groundwork and is still some good fun despite lacking in some areas.

Thumbs up. Though the horror elements are left largely in the background after the first chapter - becoming more of a horror themed adventure. Nice different ideas in each chapter. Wonderful kitty. Pretty good out of ten.

Stories Untold is full of dedication to design with wonderful atmosphere, and after also having just played Observation one can recognise the telltale signs of No Code's work. Each story is interesting with its own unique elements, and the connecting parts are implemented fantastically.

What I would argue however is that the conclusion is.. unfortunately unsatisfying. While it's true that the events described are horrible and life-changing for anyone in their situation, they're also terribly mundane and anti-climactic. They're ideas that can be presented with similar impact in the space of an advertisement, or even a single poster. Which is perhaps horrifying unto itself.

Something is missing in No Code's overall game design thesis, though it's difficult to specify what exactly. Certainly both games aren't heavy on the 'gameplay' part, but that's not necessarily a problem. It's engaging enough to not be 'hold button to continue watching the movie'. But this is a tangent. I look forward to their future growth and creations.

Borb.

SkateBird can almost be carried alone by getting to play as a bird on a skateboard, and the amount of funky birds available. It's then helped along by some nice silly friends to get you out there.

As a skateboarding game however the gameplay is not as great as it could be. While I recognise you do play as a smol birb, everything is a little more floaty than memories of Tony Hawk suggest. Any time there is a jump it is difficult to read whether you will actually make said jump, or control from grind to landing.
The audio/visual feedback design is missing something to make things pop. No noises when you perform certain moves or get high combos.
While you do have birb friends asking you to do silly tricks and be true to the call for seeds, SkateBird is also missing some of the exploration that existed. Being asked to collect all the letters to spell SKATE is less interesting when they only appear in a very close cluster specifically when someone asks you to collect them.

The latter points suggest every skate game has to be Tony Hawk Pro Skater, SkateBird does specifically seem to be trying to pull some of the same vibe to encourage comparison.
All the same, I have bailed off my board and must screm; but I looked pretty sweet doing those tricks.

A thoroughly worthy addition to the Half-Life narrative, in likeness to Opposing Forces or Blue Shift. Parallels to the Half-Life 2 story and connecting pieces are implemented well, and the length and substance of Entropy: Zero 2 are far more than one would anticipate for a free mod.

It's not flawless of course, some of the writing and events seem a little off to a proper implementation - but close. Some dialogue is of course limited by what sound files are available for the character already; though they do their best to avoid interacting with them at all. Also the traditional jank of the Source engine. As comfortable as it is to play a game in it again, it does predictably like to murder you with physics every now and then.

Would order someone to pick up that can again.

I think I hate this game. It is fun to run around, kill zombies, get from place to place.. but everything else seems accidentally designed to waste your time or be uninteresting.

Almost every side quest is finding someone's jewellery or an excuse for a time trial. Most of your time will be spent doing point of interest grinding. Collect all the chests, safehouses, inhibitors. If you want to improve your equipment you also need to farm tokens from different zombies. Far, far more than can be reasonably expected of a person to find in their playthrough. Looting is more of a nuisance than feels worth it. Obscene requirements to hold or mash the use button to open absolutely everything, slowing it all down more. Somehow needing twice as many buttons for actions than is necessary.

On top of this somehow they've made the multiplayer experience more of a hassle than the first game. More desync, chests not being accessible for everyone. Having to rescout the map every time you join. Needing to all be in the same spot for less important things.

Oh also, faction selection for different rewards that also effect the story to some degree. Thought we got rid of this over a decade ago.

On the plus side, at least scaling some of the skyscrapers, particularly without the grappling hook that they really want you to use for some of them, is nice and nerve wracking.

The parallels with Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 are greatly appreciated. Nice parks full of nice dinosaur friends.

There are some functional nuisances that could do with more ironing; walkways and bridges are fixed height/distance objects, and when placing bridges the ground needs be the height you want in the middle - you know, the part you want to bridge over. The aquatic DLC can similarly be a little awkward with dinosaurs getting stuck or not eating and needing to be reset. Game also likes to chug a little as the park grows in size.

Mobius Front is certainly different for a Zachntronics game, to have more game rather than puzzle ad infinitum. It's not a bad game either, all the components are there, and yet the result isn't particularly fun. The slow crawl of a functional war - perhaps since so many units cannot move and act in the same turn.

A game to suit particular people, I suspect. I could see the multiplayer aspect being quite engaging actually, given the clarity in nature of the game. Pieces are well defined, limits in place. A complicated game of chess.
