Wanted to try this again but for the life of me can't get it to work, even with different resolutions, compatibility mode etc. Maybe there's some solution out there but haven't found it. So will try something else.

It really hurts me to say this after playing Civ2-5, Colonization and Alpha Centauri, but this is the worst game in the series and - this really hurts - it's even a bad game.

In short, it's a watered down version of Civ 5, which does not seem to have been beta tested by anyone and relies on mods to fix some really annoying things that should never have been in a game available for money. I'm talking very simple usability issues here. But they are the slightest of your problems.
The first 50 or so turns are really exciting: you get to make the interesting starting choices and choose a path to victory in line with your location etc. After that, you will be swarmed with tens and hundreds of rather limited-effect choices. They will eventually snowball in your inevitable victory, because the game is quite easy, the AI is really passive and the choices are rather more flavor than gamechanging.

I sincerely hope this game will get a good patch. For now i feel i've made a mistake buying it. And this saddens me, since i love the series and bought the game without even thinking of reading a review first.
