Unlike the cliché, mindless, grinds of most other games, Risk of Rain 2 allows the player to earn their stripes with each unforgiving death after death in order to feel the fulfillment from striving for the god run. The game also provides a feeling of progress on all accounts; be it the game as a whole with its many discoveries and unlocks, it's endless rounds starting as a weak and vulnerable entity to an absolute behemoth, or the meta-game of improving as a player and figuring out how to use a character to its fullest and most rewarding potential. The balanced mix of skill and rng is also what makes this game so addictive and exciting with the charming art-style and satisfying controls being a welcome addition. Each item has it's own personality from its stats to its cosmetics. Although they do help immensely, finding the right items doesn't guarantee a successful run. "Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration" - having that one god-run is only limited by your imagination and overall skill.

Hard to learn, even harder to master. R6 provides a balance of difficulty and reactivity that makes it satisfying to play. The first hours of getting used to the game could very well classify it as a puzzle game given the vast variety of mechanics the game throws at you, with each decision having an abrupt and critical consequence. Supplementing the core of the game are the abundance of operators and maps that allow for a lot of replayability.
