The definitive version of Half-Life at time of review.
I do recommend the On a Rail Uncut mod for a more complete playthrough.

This is a modern version of an old school dungeon crawler, think Eye of the Beholder. It is very polished and the quality is high. Unfortunately this type of game is not my cup of tea, but nevertheless I can tell a good game when I see one. If the description appeals to you then I would highly recommend it.

The gameplay is classic Tomb Raider but with melee weapons, so as you can imagine, not the best.

The real saving grace of Soul Reaver is it's outstanding story and lore. Even if you don't play the game, it's still worth looking into.

Lot's of boring block puzzles and backtracking are also present, but at least there are portals to make the backtracking easier.

Near death isn't so much of a survival game, as a walking simulator where you freeze to death if you don't get to a closed off room with heat.

The game starts with you crash landing near a deserted base in Antarctica, where you are then tasked with walking between the buildings, restoring power, and collecting items to help you escape.
Collecting Kerosene canisters is of upmost importance as it is largely the source of heat through most of the game. Using it wisely is the difference between running out and dying and making it to the next area/restoring power.
Getting warm can only be accomplished by being in a closed off room with the kerosene heater on next to you or the power to the building turned on. If those conditions are not met you will slowly freeze to death. This is signaled by audible shivers, exclamations of how cold it is, and eventually the screen turning black and white with the ability to sprint removed. You are generally fully warm when the character says "ah, that's better."
There is a crafting system, but mostly it's just covers for windows, repairs for turning on power to the various buildings, and a couple upgrades.
Once you have restored power, and checked the food and water stores at the base, the rest of the game is going to the rest of the buildings and bringing back several items to the garage.

Most of the game is dark interiors and a raging blizzard outside. The visuals are understandably dark and dreary, so it's easy to forgive them not being exceptional.

The sound is largely just howling wind, so not much to say about it.

Near Death is all about staying warm and collecting supplies from around the Antarctic base. It's short enough that instead of getting bored of the fetch quests you actually wish there was more.

A great timing based platforming game based on 140 beats per minute. The third boss wasn't very enjoyable for me, but one boss doesn't make or break a game.

The visuals are fantastic and convey dangers well. Colorful and pleasing, they also change with the music.

The soundtrack is well implemented and elevates the whole game.

The controls are tight and rarely does dying feel like anything but your own fault.

The voice actors are text to speech robots, and the combat is bland. Maybe not the worst game on the market, but I don't play much bullet hell.

Just another clone of Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move. It adds a weird physics element to the game, where the bubbles start swinging if only attached to one other bubble. The graphics, however, are bland and lack any depth or charm. The music I can't even comment on because I couldn't get sound to work. I will say I am on Linux, but that shouldn't matter as the game has official Linux support. Just pass on this one.

This game is all about grind, in a good way, at least if you are into grinding anyway. The game play can be boiled down into: grind enemies and materials to craft better armor to grind bigger enemies and materials. This may sound bad, but it actually works quite well. The only complaint here, is the combat can get kind of boring. There is a great list of enemy types all with distinct attacks, but, esp. at higher difficulties, the combat devolves into running around them in circles having your pet attack them while you throw the occasional ranged weapon and can sometimes go in for a couple melee hits.

The story is on the cheesy side, you're a delivery driver and your packages get stolen and your ship destroyed because reasons. Lots of lore and backstory about the planet you crash land on.

Overall it's still a great game to sink a bunch of hours into grinding away for better equipment.

There are still a few full servers as of March 2019. Other than that, it is one of the best games in the Battlefield series. Definitely worth it, especially on sale.
