I played and beat this game in three days. I couldn't put it down until I beat it. I initially wasn't sure what to think of the game, but once I got through the opening hours and the game opened up, I loved it.

The story isn't anything extraordinary, but where this game stands out above all else is in its game play and accompanying music.

The succession system was such a neat twist and added a heightened sense of urgency to everything I did, while also offering cool moments of discovery with each iteration of emperors. Having the ability to level every single weapon, magic ability, etc on each character also opened so many different more possibilities for parties.

Turn based combat, the expansive classes you recruit, the ability to explore and decide your next path forward, and having a non-linear path made this bar none, not only one of the best JRPGs I played this year, but all-time. The game was nice, compact, and didn't overstay its welcome for those who want to get in and out. While also offering more for others who want to explore and test more of the game.

If you love turn based RPGs and trying something new I would fully recommend this game. Don't wait months to play this like I did.

Update: August 18th 2023

I have now completed the game and will give it my recommendation now that the save issues are fixed. My biggest complaint about the game is the audio mixing. I constantly had to adjust my speakers because of the inconsistency in the audio within the same scenes. Some character's mixes would extremely loud, while others in the scene would be very difficult to hear.

I tried different paths than my previous save that was deleted, and like other games in the genre ultimately every decision leads to the same main story points. That being said the overall story was fun with many different characters to interact with to try to solve the mystery. The relationship and scenes between Grace and Frankie felt like the strongest parts of the game. Especially if you choose to follow certain paths.

Overall, I stand by my earlier review that this game is not quite worth the $30 price tag. I would wait for a sale when it's discounted to around $10-$15, maybe even up to $20 if you're a trophy hunter, or someone who likes to replay these types of games multiple times to see the outcomes of a few of the bigger in-game choices. I personally don't think there's enough different through each play-through to play it several times through.
------

Do not play this game until the developers fix/patch save files. Currently tons of people's save files have been lost after they come back to play in another session, or after the game crashes (myself included). Until this is fixed, I would not recommend the game.

The game itself gives me a good weird and quirky vibe similar to Telltale's The Wolf Among Us, except with Greek mythology and singing. If you enjoyed the Telltale games and TWAU especially, I think you'll enjoy this game. The music itself feels okay, it's nothing amazing. Overall, the musical side just seems to be there to offer something different from other games in the genre.

The game itself was very fun until my save file was deleted. However, I don't think it's worth the $30 price tag, but instead somewhere between $10-$15 from what I had played so far.
