Tokyo Dark

So, Tokyo Dark. If I would be brief then I’d just say: it’s bloody beautiful, a hidden gem which you absolutely must try!
But as always, I’ll go in more depth about this astonishing work by Cherrymochi studios.

Story

The story is about the detective who’s looking for her partner and on her way discovering various mysterious things about the strange case and Tokyo. It may sound a bit to simple you may say, but there is a ‘but’. This detective based story about the dark mysteries is very well detailed which perfectly fits together like the insides of a Swiss watch.

Nowadays you get to hear from many game developers about that “Your choices during the play through does matter a lot for the outcome of the game and BLA BLA BLA!” Yeah, those loud statements are usually a big lie and none of your choices matter. In Tokyo Dark however your choice does matter, it matters a lot! Kill, spare or threaten; help or leave them be, what would you chose? Those choices will change the outcome of the game drastically, as there are 13 different endings to this game and yes they differ a lot from each other.
I don’t want to spoiler anything here, so I’ll have to stop now with the story part of the game.

Visuals and soundtrack

Honestly, the visuals are nothing special, they have been executed in anime style and that’s it. They are definitely not bad, no. They are just OK, nothing spectacular.

The soundtrack on the other side is up to the mark. It fits great in every situation you find yourself in. The soundtrack makes that charmingly mysterious atmosphere complete.

Gameplay

I personally don’t find it that appalling to read, so that much of reading in this game absolutely wasn’t a problem for me. Be prepared to read a lot in this game and by a lot I mean the whole time.

The only interactions with the buttons will be the moments when choosing something and walking. For everything you’ll only need the left mouse button and that’s great. This game is a story based one. While playing you’ll be reading and following the story, like while watching a movie. So playing with one hand makes it very relaxing to play.

Conclusion

The story is brilliantly executed in every possible way. The soundtrack fits great in the game and the gameplay is quite handy for the type of the game that Tokyo Dark is. The only downside which you possible could name is the visual aspect of the game. It’s, as I already have said, not bad, it’s basic.
I would highly recommend this game to everybody who is down to dive in a mysteriously detective story for a few evenings.
