Early Access Review
I have been playing this game for a while and I've seen it come a long way. I've restarted a few times as new content was added. While the game has become more challenging with some of the updates, overall, I feel that the changes have really fleshed out the world and the story to be told. The game is nearing the final updates with seasonal events coming and then the final update to finish everything out. I will attempt to keep this review as spoiler free as I can. Be aware, though, that some spoilers may slip or be necessary. The TLDR version is simply that I love the game so far and I hadn't really considered myself a farm sim kind of player. There's enough things to do to keep me engaged, and my only main gripe is that I wish the days weren't so short.

This game has it's downsides, still, and I feel I should mention these now before going into it's ups. Firstly character options. I know the last update will be including more design options but, at the moment, I feel there are too few, particularly for the Amari since they should have the most variety, in my opinion, due to how varied their species can be. I can understand not allowing players to look like the NPCs in the game (particularly for multiplayer where one might be chasing an NPC down for the first part of a repeatable quest that doesn't get marked) but there are certain similar options I'd still like to see. I was also hoping that one could play a demon with hooves, but I'm still holding out for the expanded options.
Secondly, While the map of Sunhaven is great (with only a minor issue along the beach and how certain parts of it connect to your farm), the other locations can have the icons for the NPCs and yourself appear off from where they actually can be found. This is particularly an issue with the third location where an icon can be on one map, but look so far off that it looks like it is actually on another part of the map.
Thirdly, there's an issue with multiplayer and players being on different maps that sometimes happens. I've seen visual effects used by another player on another map show up around me and vice versa. It's not game breaking, but it is a little jarring.
Fourthly, it's too easy to accidentally cause damage to a farm owned by at least a certain NPC, specifically when it comes to spells. It happened with one of the people that play with me and later to myself when my finger slipped onto a spell key. I get why it can be a thing, but I also find it weird that you can't do that on your own farm (of which I'm thankful because my other friend has this happen more often than we'd like).
Lastly, and one of my biggest issues, is that the days seem so short. I know that there is an options slider to extend the days and I've made them last as long as I can and it was fine earlier on in the development. Now that there's more things to do and more threats to respond to, I feel that, without playing multiplayer, I have so little time left to make progress into the story or to better your gear or even try out some of the newest additions to the game (and I do build for speed as quickly as I can when levelling). The fact that the days can be even shorter (even half what I play if I recall) is a scary concept and I'm not sure who would or even could play it that way.

While that may be a lot of gripes, most of it is minor and pales in comparison to the excitement of the activities I can choose to do, the joy of leveling and unlocking new skills, and the story. It also feels as if there's two ways you could play this, and though the path may be similar, the ending might be different. I don't know for certain as I can't bring myself to try the other way to end the game, assuming that will still be the end when the game is fully developed.

My first foray into the series was with Risky's Revenge: Director's Cut. While the style of the game differs a little (mostly how the map and levels are laid out), it's still a blast to play. It's not often that I get so into a game that I lose track of time to the point of not feeling tired when it's well past the time I usually head to sleep, and even then I wanted to keep playing. The main story is the best place to start, but each additional mode adds new variety to the same levels that playing through them again still feels refreshing. And the music! I can't give it enough praises. Normally when I play games I don't pay it much mind but this game, it's so energetic that I find myself almost dancing along while I dance to transform. If you are looking for an action-adventure game and don't mind having to backtrack to get 100% of everything, this is a great buy.
