Ghostrunner is a cyberpunk Dishonored. But this game stands on it's own two feet, or well, wallruns at 50 MP/H, teleports behind you and guts your entire family.

In Ghostrunner you'll die, a lot. Most noticeably to wall running. The movement system in Ghostrunner is incredible, however wall running is finicky and unless you make use of the dash bullet time you will likely slip off the lip of a wall and fall into the depths of hell. But slide jumping your way past guards and slicing them in half is the real star of the show. The combat system is simplistic, there's no crossbows or guns. Just your blade and your skills as robotic cyberpunk Jesus. Without spoiling too much you unlock skills as the game progresses, allowing you to bypass some difficult situations by using long charge skills. The earliest being blink, which allows you to instantly kill enemies in a line followed up by a dash towards the enemy at the back. Between each combat section there is parkour like segments which lead you to other combat sections. Some of these include traps which have hit boxes that may feel unfair.

Ghostrunner includes boss fights, without spoiling anything only 2 can really be called a boss fight the other being a major let down. The first boss fight is... well it's a hellish landscape where I died 200 times on the exact same jump back to back because I didn't realise there was any form of pattern to it's attacks. You may have noticed other reviews mentioning Amada Station, unless you want to have permanent PTSD I suggest you turn the dialogue down for the fight and follow the story through the subtitles instead.

The story in Ghostrunner isn't a Witcher 3 level novel with incredible writing and story telling. But the story is interesting and the back and forth between the characters is incredibly enjoyable. Some dialogue between the Ghostrunner and his companions genuinely made me audible laugh. The world is well built and set in place by the characters and even continuity is kept in check. An example is the Ghostrunner's lack of a firearm. As a master level killing machine you'd think he'd have a gun. His creators reasoning being that if a Ghostrunner misses a shot he could damage important machinery within the city, hence the need for close quarters precision.

The graphics in Ghostrunner are flawless, one of the best looking games I've ever played. The level and set design is incredible and genuinely feels like you're living in a cyberpunk city full of corruption and espionage. The music fits perfectly, reminding me of Doom 2016's soundtrack, perfectly fitting this game's design.

Overall Ghostrunner is an incredible game. My only wishes being that it was longer and we could have access to a level editor just so I had more of an excuse to play. I'm hoping for DLC or even a game expansion which could possibly even let us play outside of Dharma City. I suggest to anybody sitting on the fence about the game to pick it up and try it for 2 hours, if it simply isn't for you think on getting a refund. But I do genuinely suggest giving it a try.
