This game is painfully close to being good, alas, it is bogged down by some exceptionally poorly thought out mechanics.
Saying that, i'd still recommend playing through it, and i have gone and completed both endings.

Main gripes include:
  • Bad Melee vs Ranged balance, Ranged completely dominates late game and makes bosses trivial with little to no devotion required
  • Armor is not worth it most of the time because it's more important to make multiple attacks/position yourself before your enemy does, which heavy armor doesn't allow for - rendering it more of an afterthought/only viable if you early spec into finishing the blind angels devotion tree which allows for you to carry heavier gear with lower penalty
  • The consumable items you can get in the game have no impact in the grand scheme of things, besides maybe 1 or 2 niche uses, or the orb of unlocking allowing you to ransack most of Moon-upon-Thoss (which you will be penalized for anyway), or alternatively speeding up one of the Harlequin quests by chucking them straight at yourself
  • Bad ship handling, no further comment needed (who thought adding wind direction was a good idea, like seriously)
  • Lava pits in the dungeons are AWFUL, setting you on fire instantly with no way to prevent it ahead of time, save for dousing yourself 6 times in a row at a water pit, or painstakingly attempting to dodge every single *randomly flung* small lava projectile
  • Alchemy is clunky and is not optimized for making more than 1 potion every once in a while, requiring you to Open inventory>Scroll to alchemy tab>Scroll to the bottom of it searching for the empty flask>Enter>Sift through the 30 available potions>Enter, rinse and repeat (not to mention the only important potions are Arnaut's Panacea, Potion of Healing 1 and 2, Blackwater draft, Acitra nectar, Bitterleaf brew and MAYBE Staria Draft)
  • Only 1 amulet is equipable at a time, making dungeon rewards feel much lesser, and in general the lack of armor types and equipables
  • Devotion paths are not properly balanced, and some straight up allow the game to be played on autopilot (looking at you burrowing shot, also the Harlequin completely restricting your itemization while Our lady just has to stab an enemy or drink some blood once in a while)
  • The fast travel locations are just.. not fun or intuitive to use, relying on you remembering which direction will send you where depending on the location
  • You learn additional abilities so late in the game that it literally doesn't matter because you will more or less instantly kill any enemy you come across

REGARDLESS, the game has a fair bit of interesting stuff to offer and it gives a very old school vibe to it's UI and Quests that i quite enjoy (aka. it won't hold your hand and forces you to use your brain to solve puzzles and progress the story).
It is a little difficult to get into at the start, purely because a whole world is plopped directly at your feet to explore as you please, but once you start getting the initial devotion points and better items - it clicks. Also, the time required to get even half decent gear might be a turn-off for some, but i personally quite enjoyed that as well. The music and general style of the game is very finely crafted, and the enemies are fair but difficult most of the time.

Just wish that some of these issues were ironed out, simply because i genuinely enjoyed the hours spent getting both endings.

Early Access Review
Top tier co-op experience, perfectly set atmosphere and highly replayable. Art style is very funky and unusual, the premise is simple enough for everyone to understand, gameplay is well thought out and satisfying.

What else is there to say, buy it

I cannot, in earnest, recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun and enjoyable title.

Although it offers an excellent artistic direction and overall interesting design, unfortunately, all of the positives are completely offset by the intensely horrible feeling you get from actually playing it. From horrendous map sections which can absolutely trap you in for a lengthy span of time, to the even worse back tracking for half an hour to sit down and refresh, the place feels tedious to explore and map out.
The enemies are not much better, and provide more infuriating moments than satisfying ones, whether it be due to their placement or AI. Never once has it been satisfactory to crumple a boss, more just slightly relieving since now i wont have to walk myself back from 8 screens over.

All in all, play if you REALLY want to experience it, otherwise - i don't have much to praise it for besides the artistic side, which was done really well.

HEAVY atmosphere, grueling combat, frightening critters around every corner and an ever present feeling of being one encounter away from death.

Combat feels ever so slightly off, but the rest of the game is done remarkably well. Also the first time bird's eye perspective has felt so personal.
