So I was looking at my kitchen sink and realized my fixtures could use some polishing (no masturbation jokes, please, this is a classy establishment). As I rubbed the long hard object, I was thinking about how color works. Everything has a color, right? Trees are brown and green, oranges are... er... orange, and cars are available in every color possible (and a few that shouldn't be - canary yellow, I'm trying not to look at you). Most faucets are silver, but silver's not really a color, it's just reflective, and as soon as it gets worn or dingy everything takes on a grayish tone. So is "silver" really a good general description when it's not only "the color of everything around" but also requires regular maintenance to maintain? Why not use the color they usually are to describe them? I guess what I'm asking is: Are taps gray?
