in gris you play a girl trying to overcome her grief, regain her voice, and bring colour back into the world.

perhaps the most beautiful game out there. every scene, every animation, every backdrop appears to be a watercolor painting. the way the story and gameplay are structured is perfect for giving the main stage to the artistry, which is clearly the protagonist of the game. the mechanics are not revoluationary, but well executed and interesting for the short runtime and easy as not to be obstrustive to the atmsophere. the game also offers some achievements, if your into that sort of thing.

- and decent platformer mechanics

i wanted to like it for the look and vibe, but in the end the gameplay loop is just too uninteresting to keep me hooked. the vibe is still nice.

this is a difficult one for me.
i recommend disco elysium because it introduces novel gameplay approach for rpgs. the internal dialogue really creates a new level of immersion, and makes you play the character, instead of just optimizing for the best potential outcome.

however, the world and setting just aren't for me. on paper it all sounded interesting, in reality it just didn't click. the protagonist is too over the top for me, and despite the praise heaped onto the world by others, i found wandering through the dreary areas again and again repetitive and boring. it did not draw me in as i had hoped.

if you're worrying about these things while deciding whether to buy the game, may be skip it. but even if the setting is not my cup of tea, i have to acknowledge that worldbuilding, writing, and concept are top notch.

bit short, but a cute passtime

inside is the perfect limbo follow-up, expanding on the themes and improving the gameplay aspects.
through minimalistic worldbuilding that always leaves the player guessing as to what's actually going on, the game creates a somber and threatening atmosphere. this feeling is enhanced by death animations that are quite gruesome, even in the simplistic art style.

as a little boy being chased through a lovecraft-inspired world, you have to solve small puzzles that are relatively simple. the gameplay and controls are also minimalistic, and mechanics are only implicitly explained.

overall, it's a great experience and makes for a good night's entertainment at 2-4 hours in length. Price might seem a bit over the top, but you should definitely get it on sale.
8/10, get it if it sounds interesting.
