This is my favorite battlefield game. It is more infantry focused than the other games in the series, and has some cool modes like Hotwire and Blood Money. I wish people would have given this game more of a chance when it was fresh.

Early Access Review
Pretty good incremental game. not a lot of depth to it but it has some cool features and is fun to look at while most idle games are just lists of numbers. this is also the only multiplayer idle game i know and it's nice to chat with the community while riding along. Sometimes you'll even get carried past your wall by friendly high-levels.

Controls are bad, systems are poorly explained, frame rate frequently drops to the high teens, story is poorly written, combat is frustrating and if you take too long you just lose for no reason. Also apparently it has about 1/3 the number of monsters as previous games. Also all the monsters are either dinosaurs or dragons so it looks bland as hell.

Pretty good collectathon with tried and tested shooting mechanics. It didn't feel much different from 3 + 4, but 3 + 4 do a lot of things right. The companion system is pretty good. You can liberate outposts just by sitting back and watching air support clean up the mess (hilariously, this will give you the undetected bonus since enemies only have to not see you).

I always feel this way after a Far Cry game, but I wish it was longer. still, 30 hours is a decent first-run time I think. The Far Cry games have this conundrum wherein it feels satisfying to secure outposts and liberate regions but once you do all tension is removed from those regions because all the enemies are gone. I don't know if there is a good solution to this problem.

The story is okay. Other people seem upset by the ending but I didn't mind it. It is annoying how often the game will interrupt you mid-activity to get some Plot in there, but those missions are short. I wish they would find a new theme to work in. Ever since 3 was wildly popular for calling the players out for being violent meatheads they've had to work that theme into every Far Cry game it seems. Maybe not Primal, since I didn't bother with that one. 3 was a semi-serious exploration of the concept of a descent into barbarism. 4 took that and made it more comical. This one just.... blames you for killing all the people who started shooting you on-sight and does nothing new with it. We get it; shooting people is bad. Do you have any other messages for us?

Ratpocalypse 2 is one of the better pieces to come out of the Left 4 Dead genre. Instead of running around with assault rifles and shotguns the heroes use bows, swords, and blunderbusses to carve their way through the horde of rat men, and it feels glorious. There's something cinematic in the way the fights play out. Like, there'll be a ton of little guys rushing around, and you'll lock eyes with some big shielded warrior, and slash your way through the horde to get to him and put him down.

Each character is sufficiently different to warrant switching it up now and then. There are 5 characters, each with 3 subclasses and a multitude of weapon types to choose from. As the Witch Hunter Saltspyre, I've found the flail and repeating crossbow to be a good combination of crowd control and single-target dps. As Kruber, I've had luck with a sword + shield paired with a blunderbuss. After 14 hours, there are still many varieties and combinations of weapons for me to check out. The combat feels a lot deeper than, say, Left 4 Dead, which will show you its entire hand within the first few campaigns.

The characters are also pretty funny. They'll chastise each other for using healing items too early, and call out impressive kills/streaks with witty comments. The lines are good, but they can get repetitive after a little while. This is especially true of Kerillian, who must couch every comment in a snide remark about how superior elves are.

The maps are very pretty, and vary from abandoned dwarf cities to ravaged farmlands to skaven-infested towns. Sometimes they can go a bit long, especially if the team isn't experienced with the layout. This becomes especially frustrating when a Rat Ogre TPKs the party right at the end. A single map generally takes about 20-40 minutes, depending on the team and the map.

The music is pretty good, but not worth upgrading to the special edition at normal price unless you really want those wallpapers. The music that plays when a horde spawns is great for getting into the rhythym of combat.

tldr - 8/10. a solid buy if you like Warhammer Fantasy or Left 4 Dead-style games.

Picked this up on sale, and was surprised by the amount of content. It's a pretty decent fallout parody that keeps drawing me back for one more run. A lot of people complain about the time limits on the floors, but I've played for about 17 hours now and have yet to even see the guy that comes after you when you run out of time. Just keep moving toward the exit (follow signs to Elevator/Storage/Bar) and you'll be fine.

Not a good game for deaf players as there are a lot of sound cues that are important for making it through a cooler run alive.
