I love this game. I want everybody I know to experience this game. I have purchased this game a total of 7 times now including both on Steam and Switch and I expect that number to continue to increase as I share this absolute gift of a game with every friend that mentions it.

I HATE rogue-likes I hate losing progress and doing the same thing over and over with no satisfying progression so consider that when I say that Hades is currently my FAVORITE game. If you need more reasons to buy this game I'll try and elaborate on some of my reasons for enjoying this experience so much.

1. The Cast
You can see the visuals and amazing soundtrack in the store videos but what you can't see is the story and characterization of these myths. Every character in this game feels wonderful to talk with! Your relationships develop as you learn more about this interpretation of Greek mythology and what is going on in the world. The design decisions for characters are clever, fitting, and meeting cast members is exciting.
A run ending the violent way is always a quick sting of sadness that is quickly soothed by a new portion of dialogue to explore for the characters waiting for me at the beginning, it's almost like the game's way of putting little band-aids over your wounds and hyping you back up to try your best once more. I've never quit this game out of frustration or anger because the game feels like it wants me to succeed as much as I do.

2. Rogue-Lite not Rogue-Like
There are multiple currencies that persist throughout runs and allow you to upgrade different aspects of your character. Builds in this game are very versatile and almost everything feels wonderful and useful. I only say "almost" because a certain character has useless garbage he uses to ruin my runs! Thank you Ares, keep your trash to yourself next time.

3. Skill Progression and Expression
If you are worried about the game being too difficult, there is a mode to reduce incoming damage and the reduction ramps up if you need it so you will always be able to experience the full story. The basic mechanics are simple and attacks flow together smoothly with most animations able to end early or buffer another attack/dash.
If you are worried about the game being too easy, you are wrong. Hades has a ramping difficulty system where you can practice and crank up the Heat as you get better and better at the game. This gives you a feeling of infinite skill expression where your ceiling is as high as you can stand it.

TLDR; The game's controls are very fluid and flow into one another in the way you would expect from a fast paced action game. The characters are engaging, funny, and feel like they are encouraging you to do your best. The progression system is balanced for players of all skills and give runs an additional feeling of reward even if they end badly. This is a game that the developers cared about and it shows.
