With the game very close to release after all this time think recommending is far easier to do. The games had a few massive changes from its first conception but to me all for the best. Many people moan about the Dev's and content but simply turning on the Nightly build to ahave a look just shows you what the Devs are up to and some of the ideas are great.
I backed the game in Kickstarter and even though the timeframe for release was there I suspected they'd massively underestimated. I don't really care about waiting as long as the finish product is good.... hell minecraft was in this state for years too and that was still barely a game at release without mods.

TLDR Full release should be soon so "Get the game if you liked Terraria! or similar!"

*Update* Many years later after release, multiple updates and patches and 250 more hours .... I can still recommend this game if your into 2D pixel art sandbox games.
