Stay calm and avoid sudden movements: Similar to encounters with many animals, it's important not to panic. Sudden movements can startle the chipmunk and potentially escalate the situation.
Create distance: Slowly and calmly move away from the chipmunk to put some space between you and the animal. Give it an escape route, allowing it to move away on its own terms.
Do not corner or trap it: Chipmunks may become more defensive if they feel trapped or cornered. Provide an open path for the chipmunk to escape, and avoid blocking its way.
Avoid direct eye contact: In the animal kingdom, direct eye contact can sometimes be perceived as a challenge or threat. Try to avert your gaze without turning your back on the chipmunk completely.
