Early Access Review
I don't normally write reviews, but this game seems to be receiving a fair amount of negative reviews for mostly dumb reasons, and I think things need some clearing up.

The valid complaints I've seen so far are 1: the performance, and 2: the durability system. I won't go into depth, as other have already explained these issues, but these are fair points. I will, however, note that I'm running the game on an old 1080TI and it plays perfectly at 144fps. And as for the durability system, it can be mildly annoying, but I think that's about it. Most people can agree durability serves no purpose other than inconvenience in games, but I think this was the devs' attempt at a consequence for deaths, much like losing souls in a DarkSouls game. That being said, I don't think these issues are even remotely close to being enough to warrant a negative review. This game feels like a breath of fresh air in the currently spiraling video game industry. It seems like every game release of late is a hyper mainstreamed cash-grab clone, and this game alone has given me hope for future dev teams.

I can confidently say any other complaint is ridiculous. While this game is not perfect, all the negative reviews citing anything other than the two reasons I've listed above are just dumb. The combat feels great, the loot is rewarding, the visuals are amazing, the voice acting is phenomenal, exploration is incredible, boss fights are huge spectacles, the mechanics are unique, crafting is ingenuous... and I could go on. Ignore anyone complaining about difficulty, it's really not that hard to parry, dodge, etc. Also, It seems to me like all the mechanical issues people are having are because they're trying to play a controller game on mouse&keyboard. You absolutely HAVE to play this game with some sort of controller, the controls were very explicitly designed for it.

Once the performance issues are cleared up, this game could easily be GotY. The gameplay and world building this team has pulled off is truly astonishing.

TO SUMMARIZE, Ignore the negative reviews, this is a MUST PLAY if you like moderately challenging games and have a decent PC with a controller.

Only writing this review because I feel like this game is being unfairly review-bombed. I love Slay the Spire and have been looking for another game of similar quality for a long time without any success. I have finally found a game capable of competing and it's Wildfrost. There are so many unique mechanics that make it stand out from the sea of StS clones. The meta progression is done in a very clever way, and every run feels unique, as you start with a different leader each time. Getting new cards and items feels extremely impactful and can totally change the gameplay. The art, animations, sound design and UI are all incredible (and in my opinion infinitely better than any competitor).

The reason so many people are giving negative reviews is only because of the difficulty. It's not fair to leave a negative review simply because the game is too hard for you. This game is definitely challenging, but in no way shape or form as impossible as the reviews would make you believe. Every strategy I've tried thus far seems strong enough to be viable. That being said, if you don't like a challenge this game is definitely not for you. You will die multiple times before beating the first boss (as it should be). And numerous more times before even reaching the second boss. You will have to strategize not only in how you play your cards, but also which cards and items you decide to pick up. If you are unable to create a strong combination, you will die. HOWEVER, I'm never upset when I die playing this game. Each death feels more like a mistake on my part than an "unbalanced" enemy or "overpowered" mechanic. Some enemies (especially bosses) have extremely unique and strong abilities that demand you form a strategy around them, which makes for some very interesting fights. Not only this, but each death is usually accompanied by some sort of meta progression. This will not necessarily make your fight easier, but instead give you more options and unlock completely new ways to play the game. (horizontal progression)

To sum it up, if you enjoy challenging rogue-like deck builders, this is one of the best ones ever made. If you don't like thinking, and would rather blame "balancing" then please do not buy, or review this game and ruin it for everyone else.
