I've been playing shooters my entire life already and never quite knew which of them were my favorite, and I could also never say "Yeah, this is the best one." - it was a question I've always had in my mind. I've grew up at the time where you said "Battlefield is better than Call of Duty" and vice versa - that was back when BF3 and MW3 released. Battlefield was for adults, Call of Duty for kids... and so on and so forth. A few of you probably know what I'm talking about. I grew out of those shooters for the most part though. Why's that?

Because I found the answer to my question.

I can say without a doubt and with good conscience that Hunt: Showdown is by far the best shooter there is. Hunt is unique in it's gameplay, and on top of that, you get an incredibly tense world and atmosphere. Now for those who don't know how Hunt works, let me summarize the idea:

You play as a Hunter, and either Solo, Duo (standard) or in a Trio. You and your partners goal is to find a boss that lives somewhere in one of the 16 compounds on the map - to find it, you need to collect clues which decrease the area the boss might live in. Once you found all three clues, you know exactly where the boss is and kill him. Do that, gather the bounty and leave the area. Problem is, up to 9/10/11 other players want to get that bounty too - and if you don't kill them, they will succeed.

What makes Hunt so special is that the gameplay motivates you to think, instead of do run and gun - that CAN work, but most of the time it won't. Headshots ALWAYS instakill, and you only take about two bullets usually before you go down, making shootouts extremely dangerous and intense. To make things even more intense, you can hear literally everything... and so can your enemies. Your pistol is empty and you have to reload? Careful - someone might hear you. You're aiming at someone? People can hear you breathing. You heal yourself? People will hear your character relief. Everything can be heard, and weapons can penetrate walls - so if you happen to have a shotgun and you hear someone reloading on the other side, listen carefully and perhaps you can kill your enemy without having seen him once.

And those who die will lose all of their equipment, making deaths in this game extremely punishing. Each time your hunter survives a match (you can always leave via extraction points), he levels up, gaining upgrade points with which you can buy perks. Then you can for example revive teammates from the distance, hold your pistol like a western hero and shoot the entire clip in a matter of seconds... or perhaps you want to sneak quietly through water?

This game works heavily with sound and surroundings, and apart from human enemies, there are monsters that will make your live even harder, or easier. Grunts (essentially zombies) patrol the map, so called Hives send insect swarms to poison you and Immolator will explode if you shoot or hit them with sharp weapons.

The mix of PvPvE makes Hunt an incredibly intense and yes, sometimes scary game, but I think that is what makes it the best one in my opinion. It gives you the feeling that one mistake or bad luck can be enough to end your life - and that goes for your enemies too. But you usually always know why you died.

Yeah, that's why Hunt Showdown is the best in my opinion.

Hunt gives you what a shooter should give you - it makes you feel you are part of this world. You don't want to die, you want to get out of there alive, with the bounty and with your friends.

Hunt scares me. Hunt makes me think. Makes me decide.

That's why it's the best.
