Frostpunk is a pretty complex game that requires a lot of managing short term problems while trying to plan for the long term and any lack of planning in either regard will either wreck your run early in or have it collapse in the end as you try to manage an ongoing crisis

--And I love it. I love the way that this game makes you think strategically even if it doesn't exactly require the most creative planning. I think this game also succeeds in creating a very fragile balancing act between the end of the world and whether or not the player decides to maintain the societal norms that existed in a world where order and organization were the backbone of civilization, and it's also a game where often the most moral solution isn't the right one. For example, ceremonial burials will make people happy and retain some normalcy in the most dire times, but if you dump them in a pit and freeze them for use as either organ donors or fertilizer, you'll provide a much needed service to your people. Or cramming people into crowded hospitals. It might not make them happy, but when everyone is frostbitten, ill, and on the edge, it makes sense

My major complaint with this game (aside from performance) is that the scale kind of boxes you in and prevents creative thinking. Most runs of each major scenario are likely to play out in a similar way, and when you've played it multiple times, it eventually all becomes second nature which isn't exactly something you want in a game like this. Especially on "A New Home." You rush overcrowding, rush to the automaton, mechanize the city, end with 650 people, and it's over.

Still, everything from the sound design and music to the world building, visuals, and the way the game requires quick thinking are done phenomenally, and I would recommend this game to anyone, even if they aren't necessarily fans of RTS/city builders, because that applied to me and I still had a lot of fun.

One of the best games I have ever played

I really used to adore this game when it was in its infancy. It was simple and easy enough to figure out, and all of the maps (aside from Asylum that map has always been awful) were fun to play. The new updates ruined it. The game tried to become too much. I think the ways the ghost interacts with the environment is great, but aside from that, difficulty scaling was ruined and is significantly more awful than it used to be, maps were overhauled and became less interesting, too many ghost types and gadgets, and a total lack of identity. The legacy version when the game first came out was great. It had an identity of being a great game to play with friends and being simple enough to boot up and play quick, even with randoms it was fun. Now its a complete identity crisis. Too much has changed. As weird as it sounds, I want less. Because being simple and replayable was its identity. Now it's a mess

This game is so awful that it loops back around and becomes the best thing I've ever witnessed

If you have friends to play it with, this game is genuine comedy at its finest
