Doom movement with a Hades style roguelike map with super interesting ways to make builds! Multiple starting classes and tons of cool upgrades to unlock. If you like the combat of DOOM, this is for you.

Early Access Review
OK, so there's some huge upgrades gameplay-wise from the first one. There's also some areas that I would have wished for some changes.

Good:
The music is insane, it's extremely DOOM 2016ish while keeping the creepy theme. It slaps. It slaps so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. I would put this soundtrack up there with Doom, Dusk, Trepang, and Wolfenstein.

The gunplay feels better than the first game. In the first one, I regretted doing certain upgrades that changed too much about a gun i loved. this game lets you go back to the other gun completely which never made me afraid to try out new weapons like the first one did. Each weapon has strengths and weaknesses. except the pistol upgrade, that thing is insanely good.

the overall look and feel is much better. Not quite doom level, but a big step up from something like DUSK which is my other favorite boomer shooter. Super creepy enemy design, i just wished each area made some visual changes to each one.

Level design is interesting without being convoluted- a very nice breath of fresh air. So many of these shooters are trying way too hard instead of focusing on the combat. Shortcuts unlock earlier areas so you don't have to backtrack the whole level. very well done.

the puzzles were interesting enough to do but easy enough to not take you completely out of the game.

Secrets were very hard to find- that's a good thing in games nowadays. Explore everything.

I like the hub system with the ability to replay each level individually- especially with the record player in the center.

NEUTRAL:

Story was good, but very much incomplete. can't really give a solid yes on this.

No 2 character options anymore, this may be added later when done with early access- but without the old perk and unlock system, would it even matter?

BAD:

the movement is... better than the first game, but no sprinting, sliding, or bhopping makes it feel slower for kinda no reason. I get that it's a design choice, but some of the larger room fights felt like I was forced to take damage since I can't move fast enough to dodge everything. At this point, DUSK is still the best feeling game other than the Dooms.

The hitbox of exploding barrels is messed up- aim for the bottom half because your bullets have a high chance of going through the top half with no explosion.

Ammo for some guns felt inconsistent. Why can I only carry 12 extra revolver shots but over 100 for the other pistol? This i'm sure will get better with future updates.

I'm not a big fan of the book system. I actually enjoyed all the different powers from the first game, they just needed to be stronger in order to be in the rotation with firearms. This game just goes screw it, you pick the 3 things you want shift to do and it will do it. Much more limiting and i'm sad they went this route.

The boss fight was pretty bad. FMF had some epic ones and this single one so far was boring with a dumb arena.

OVERALL:
I got this game in the humble bundle, it's definitely worth playing through once it's got a few more levels and actual story. Just the music alone makes this game a good use of maybe 3 hours of content. I would say to play the first game, then Dusk, Overkill, and Prodeus.
