Why do I have a VAC ban?

My VAC ban is from using an FPS unlocker on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to uncap the FPS from 90 because I wanted to enjoy the game on my 144Hz monitor & did not think such a little thing would result in a VAC ban
