Half of my solo runs ended not because I blow up, but due to the disconnection. You won’t believe the distraught and furious I felt when I was having a super good run with all the RNG god with me when a sudden network surge caused me to fail my run. WOULD IT KILL YOU TO ALLOW RECONNECTING FOR SOLO PLAYERS?! sometimes it almost feels the the devs are against solo players just because this factor. Next time I disconnect and lose my good solo progress, I’m uninstalling this ♥♥♥♥ and never play again.

Well I'd be damned... One of the greatest dragon RPG that's ever made all the way back to 20 years ago. I thought I was dreaming for a few seconds to see this game release a DLC. You know what, I don't even care what the content of this DLC is. I bought it because this game brought me so much fun and joys as I'm a huge fan of dragons. Thank you for the good memories, I doubt I will ever see another dragon game as good as this in the next decades. Truly the messiah of dragon lovers. Devs if you can hear me, please consider make a remaster version of the original game, or even The I of the Dragon 2. I'd die happily if I can see it come true in my limited lifespan.

For those who can't read Chinese:
Basically, this game mentioned the wrong developer and the publisher in both the Steam page AND in-game credit menu. What's more, the game was original announced to be free-to-play in 2005. Now the "publisher" is charging money for an once-free game which I'm not even sure if the original developer(s) is aware of.

I have not played the original so what I said is about this remake.
[short version]
If you have never played any other zombie vr games and you stick to auto options (like auto reload) and easy difficulty, then it's a fairly good shooting game, compared with other shenanigans I played like KF2VR and fallout 4.
If you have tried realistic zombie vrs like Saints and Sinners and you wanna stick to those manual options (pull the gun release, etc), this game will likely freak you out.

[long version, and I have to compare it with The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners]
PROS
This game has SUPERIOR melee experience than S&S. It hits like a charm and almost never misses. I dare say the melee feels even better than half of the guns. S&S has some of the worst double-hand melee experience ever existed in VR history while melee in this game made me so joyful with tears.

CONS
[Newly edited: please note that I only played this game with manual-reloading settings on hardest difficulty. These reviews are based on that only playthrough]
1. Some of the level has ridiculous settings. I got killed in that canyon level 8 times. This game wanna make you feel like caged and intense but that's not the reason to block the ways where you came from. The ♥♥♥♥♥ invisible wall came out nowhere and caged you with a bunch of zombies when the horde comes. You can see the stairs and houses where you come from, and they leads to a long and safe road. Guess what, when the horde comes, you can't go back. They didn't even bother to add a little reason why you can't go back, I'll buy anything, like sudden collapsing or burned down. But no. it's the INVISIBLE wall. What devs don't know is that we are not using keyboards. They expected us to play like CoD zombie pros, running and herding zombies in a small confined area. Well I can't do it. Idk about you but this is beyond my ability (and my controller). [Edited on 10 Nov: Apparently only a few levels have this problem, the rest is like a jump down to the place where you can't climb up. Still, most of these horde zones leave you little to no place to retreat.]
2. Popping zombie heads should be easy and fun. Then why some zombies take almost 3 shots on the head to kill? And they are not even wearing helmets. I wasn't even using SMGs, it was a damn revolver. What kind of (former) human brain can take 3 revolver shots and still survives? If devs want me do do that, at least don't cage me in a small area.

3. WHERE. THE. BLOODY. HELL. IS. THE. BACKPACK? Zombie apocalypse isn't real so maybe I shouldn't be talking about common sense from the beginning. But I'm playing a damn game, why can't i have some hoarding fun? All the grenades and melee weapons just lying on the ground and you only have TWO slots on your waist to store them. They copied this storing style from Half Life Alyx I get it, but it's a different game with different atmosphere. Who said I can't use the excesses foods and grenades later? And what kind of stupid zombie survivor doesn't bring a back pack with them? I know this game has dog and the backpack with it later in the game. But I have played three levels and this no-backpack setting chocks me whenever I think of it. So many times when I wished I picked up the food and/or the explosive from the last checkpoint. It's a linear game, don't make me go back.

4. You can't grab zombies. If you played S&S you know how important it is to grab zombie head in one hand and shoot it with handgun in another head. It's called save bullets, it's style, it's precision, it's pure awesomeness. S&S even has that shove system where you grab and push a zombie into a crowd, all the zombies impacted will be briefly stunned. You just have to have a way to avoid or kill zombies even if you run out of bullets and melees. In this game, if you're out, you're dead. You can get cornered so easily but devs just can't have the slightest mercy to give you something to break free. S&S have so many ways to break free and they don't even have to fight zombies. You can just run and escape without killing anyone.

5. Melee weapons break too easily. It's like 7 or 8 heads and the crowbar breaks in half. Who said I can't fight with the other half? Well devs don't let me use it anyway. Some melee weapons are not supposed to break that easily. Perhaps devs feel this game's melee weapon is too good so they balanced it to make guns more fun and reliable.

6. Maybe the WORST thing they did. The way this game handle "Deadzone" is horrible. If your visor goes into some object and collide, the screen goes completely dark. You can't see a damn thing unless you move away from it. But the thing is, most of the time it doesn't make sense. You should be able to crawl and look into cars, but once again they have some sort of invisible walls inside the car. And if you stick your head too deep, the screen goes dark again. HLA handles this problem with a progressive larger yellow indicator, and S&S doesn't have this indicator AT ALL which means you can stick your head wherever you want as long as you think it's reasonable to do so. I can tolerate black screens if it's out of combat, but it happens in combat too and it's lethal in anyway possible. Imagine digging through a car in search of ammo, and a zombie crawls out of it and collide with your VR visor. It suddenly goes black and you can't see a damn thing. You know it's a zombie coming at your but its pitch black cause you are being punished of sticking your head where you "shouldn't be".

[Edited on 10th Nov 2024, finished the campaign on apocalyptic difficulty. Don't ever try this difficulty if you can't reload guns in 0.5 second.]
CONS
7. The checkpoints in the games are ridiculous. There's no checkpoints AFTER each every hordes. Which means if you somehow dead from single zombie in the corner after a huge horde, you have to fight the whole damn hoard all over again. Sometimes there's no checkpoints before or after the horde, for example, the train level after the mineshaft. The 3 explosive charges also kinda torturing, as there's no saves after each charge and if you die you have to collect them all over again.

8. The sniper rifles in this game is EXCRUCIATING painful. And that's the ONLY weapon with a scope. Other than that, you have to use mechanical sights on other weapons. Many of these sights are bad and you can't customize them. As a result, i'm hip-firing 90% of the time. Aiming in this game doesn't pay well.

I was expecting CoD in VR. It looks even horrible than MWIII. Each map is so tiny and confined. Teammates are little to none and plot is very embarrassing.

Edit : Come on, guys. I was talking about COD 1 and 5. The good old WWII experience. Why can't I expect something like that? What I wouldn't give for a CoD WaW VR. Imagine the atmosphere, the battle and most importantly, the size of each battle. I bet this game can really sells good if it's made based on CoD 5. But unfortunately it doesn't. Like I said, each map/stage is really small and you really can't feel much battlefield if there's only a few enemies and little-to-none allies around you. JUST BECAUSE IT'S A VR GAME DOESN'T MEAN I SHOULD LOWER MY EXPECTATION. Call me jester all you want but I still stand by my view. This game sucks. I've played tons of WWII themed games and this is probably the worst one.

Only true legends remember Larian by their own Divinity before BG3...

They have supported Larian before they become Divine. They are the true heroes who made BG3 possible.

I never thought I'd see this day alive. It IS happening. If RA2 can go steam, what can't? Warcraft III let's go.

Anyway, steam version is WAY better than the EA App version. They fixed a lot of problems. Online service is still down through. They fixed a problem where switching out of RA2 to other window results in black screen once you switch back to RA2. This is a very annoying problem persists in the EA App version. I don't know what else they fixed but as of 3 hours playing on win 10 I have not crashed for even A SINGLE TIME, which is a miracle judging by this game's age.
