If you're a fan of the Outlast games and their type of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up horror then Trials does not disappoint.

You have options of difficulty, different ways of playing, you can do long sessions or short ones, solo or co-op with friends/strangers and- one thing I actually really enjoy; they have a tinnitus filter for those that suffer from that. While I don't personally, the fact that it is there makes me really happy because I have friends who do. This way we can all play safely and enjoy being scared to death without being in actual physical pain.

Additionally, they keep adding new content and ways to enjoy the game. Cosmetics can be bought with in-game currency from a catalog and that catalog will stay permanently. It doesn't expire- meaning that you can always go back to it regardless of season and still earn things, which eliminates the pressure of needing to spend a lot of time trying to get through a catalog before season's end. You can just enjoy everything without fear of missing out if you don't have time.

Overall, I highly recommend this game regardless of if you're playing solo or with others.

For its price, it really isn't a bad game.

It is however tedious- you have options on your mode of escape while collecting data on the creatures that are trying to hunt you. Either escape will need specific tools and various puzzles solved in order to get out. All in all this is fairly straight forward. Its a sound based game, so dying by lots of sound is to be expected really, though due to this- you have to time your communication and constantly crouch at a crawling pace. Again, to be expected.

There is a way to bring back dead teammates via medkits which is helpful- its just all the tools you need to escape are scattered throughout randomly and with the monsters you again have to move very slowly and almost never talk. Again, not a bad game. Just can be very time consuming and tedious. There are ways to make it fun if you're going for the meme or just trying to essentially kill your friends. I would just keep in mind that it is a game that you have to take slow if you do plan on actually doing well and progressing.

And yes, you do attract monsters with every sound, regardless of if you are whispering or not. You opening cabinets and doors, healing, etc all makes sound as well so you need to be weary of that when playing. I mean, its the whole premise of the game.

Is it fun? For its price, yeah.
Does it get boring? Very quickly.
Does it have interesting elements? Absolutely.
Overall, its just very tedious and somewhat repetitive.

The original always holds a soft spot for me and the remake doesn't so much diminish that as it does strengthen it. I love both, there are things I like more in either one, but both versions are wonderful and worth playing. The remake does a lot of things right and despite some lore changes, I find it still holds up nicely. Its definitely something I will continue to replay.

Easily one of my favorite games. The story is rich, the bosses are fun, the art is wonderful- there's nothing about this game that I don't love or admire.

Personally, I think this is a great game- both with friends and solo. You can clearly see the amount of passion and work that got put into the game by the devs and I absolutely adore the characters. The card system makes replayability both fun and exciting and every time you run through it, there's something new. Whether its dialogue interactions that give you a bit more backstory on characters or its lore that you discover by being in the right place at the right time. It can be challenging but also very rewarding

Early Access Review
It's a fun game to play with friends, solo play can be done but it's not nearly as fun because you are forced to be serious or lose your money and items....
Besides, who doesn't love listening to a garbled version of 'Careless Whisper' over the walkie talkie followed by the screaming of a demon?

Past the potato faces, past all the wonderful "features", past the user interface that is only really fixable through mods otherwise its a console game on pc- you have rich and amusing quest lines that don't disappoint, unique characters, and satisfaction through you actions.

If you like delving into the human psyche and decending into madness only to be faced with either more madness or a glimpse of clarity in an otherwise dark and dremor world, then look no further than this game. Is it as jumpscare heavy as some other games? No, while there are some, there are not nearly as many as a lot of other games recently released. Don't get me wrong, it has a few and the few that it has are extremely effective, but the majority of your scare factor comes more from the ever shifting environment around you and the underlaying story and journey your are traversing through. And just like any story, there is more than one side; as such there are choices to be made and different endings to be achieved. Through so a process, the story itself can be changed drastically, making the protagonist shift anywhere from misunderstood, to grossly selfish and an aggressive alcoholic. We also see that his story is not the only one being told within this myriad of madness, as there are two other prominent characters being the mother and child. Through the main game, you can see a great deal of the protagonists story and the wifes, the child has a segment or two but beyond that there is only what you find through notes. Fear not though, for the DLC, does a good job at filling in all the missing gaps on the relationships and the child as well as the parents. Similar to the main game, the choices you make in the DLC determine what kind of people your parents were (Did I mention you played as the child all grown up? Pretty cool honestly) While they are both far from the perfect parent, your choices can either make that mildly justified or not and as such you get to either make peace with your demons or let them burn. As mentioned before, a grand majority of this game is based on a psychological horror aspect. Between this and the number of paths your could go one to achieve endings or to get more information hidden within the confines of the game and better understand the characters, I would say that both the base game and the dlc are worth having and completing to their entirity.

A good time killer with easy enough mechanics, not too challenging unless you want to customize to it that way. Overall a fun game to play with others
