Expected A Bad Story, Came out experiencing a Rich Immersive story

well... i guess i may be wrong but who cares, lets get down to the review, this was all played at day 1 of release, 7th August, finishing off the game at 8th August. ill *Try* to be spoiler free

First off, the perfomance of the game, The game is Running On Unreal Engine 5, Since it seems Hangar 13 has abandoned the Fusion Engine, Last used For Mafia Definitive Edition (correct me if im wrong), I was Running the game On a AMD Ryzen 7 5700x And a AMD Radeon RX 6700xt, Running on The Default Auto Detected Settings BUT putting the upscaling Mode on native (Unreal TSR was default), Just so i can see how it performs. It Runs Fine most of the time at a stable framerate, going through a forest sometimes tanks the fps, still at a playable framerate, if you consider 40fps playable.

Now the story, i genuinely had zero expecations for the story to be intresting or good in some way due to the disappointment i had with mafia 3, surprisingly, the story is good, the narrative to this was good. Enzo's Character from being a carusu (mine-boy) to falling to the depths of the criminal underworld in the Torrisi family was a great way to show the rise of Enzo, I would like to delve deeper into this but.... id be spoiling the game. so, buy the game and find out, or keep on reading this review first. also, there are 15 missions in total, 1 being the prologue, and the 14 being the main missions. there are some optional tasks in missions you can do too.

The music was composed by BT, Recording The Original Compositions With The Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Bringing Rich Sicillian Musical History, Rearranged and Reimagined From Folk Songs of Sicily, which in my opinion they have done a great job on it. Since Theres no Radio Stations in The Old Country, The background music is filled in with these (im uncertain though if these were also composed and recorded by bt and The national symphony, as its not in the soundtrack or i dont realise that it IS there), the music is good though, even in in the story, the boss battles, and whatnot.

The Characters were REALLY well looked into, they were well written for this story, they did not leave a single drop behind. they really want you, the player to get attached to the characters, and like them, which they have done for me with Enzo And a few other characters.

Now, The gameplay, Its just like the previous Mafia games, but They made it Feel like in The Old Country that the gameplay with the characters you face against is natural, like it should happen in the story, but besides that, theres a option to skip long drives in the old country, so you dont have to get fed up going from point a to point by while wasting maybe 3-5 minutes while failing to control your car with simulation driving on. and other than that, its really the same, nothing new or innovative with it. the story is all what its about, but atleast the gameplay is somewhat decent enough so you can still enjoy the story.

Theres some neat references and mentions of other characters from other mafia games, but i want to leave that for YOU to check out, since its interesting to find some callbacks from older games, in which, the collectables are mostly introduced while playing the story, so you have to do a little bit of searching too when playing the story, you can still gain MOST collectables, some are locked in certain missions.

Thats it for this review i believe, the game is probably the best game narrative wise ive ever played this year, ive never felt this hooked on a game that i need to finish and see where the story leads up, only gripe about this which is not major is the "explore" or free ride of the game is behind the carcylopedia in the main menu, which is not a big issue but i thought from the text i could just look at the models of the vehicles in my opinion. other than that, its a 10/10 for me, maybe a 9, but i think its a 10 personally in my opinion to be honest

The games good overall, feels like youre playing the old game but with newer visuals + a sprint option.

story was good too, some of the quests felt fleshed out

however there are some bugs and visual bugs from UE5 that bothered me in which made me relaunch the game a few times as of writing this review (25/4/2025)

if youre playing this for the first time and enjoyed it, try skyrim if you havent, or else try the original version of oblivion

I had mixed feelings for this game on release but when i finally bought the game back in 2021 my viewpoint for this game changed

I recommend this game heavily if you like the first game, and if you never played the first game, i would say play it but playing the first game will actually make you recognise some old characters again

Game is good but i would also like to mention that the game is practically unplayable on pc if its like modern hardware. As much as id hate to say this. You should buy sonic x shadow generations, you wont get far here **without mods**
