TL;DR It's uncomfortably different than the original, but it's still solid.

I really would've preferred a 1:1 remaster, but I figured that wasn't in the cards after the Pac-Man World 1 remake. I am just glad this is on Steam, in spite of its many differences.

This remake is a bit bloated, above all else with the weird gacha collectibles, and the end-of-level collectible recaps. If the game was made by any other company than Namco, the gacha system would seem out of place, but that flavor of key-jingling is too ingrained to not make its way into everything they publish (save for FromSoft titles).

To wit, tokens can now be spent to roll for new figurines in the arcade, rather than unlocking new features in the arcade as they did in the original. Mazes can no longer be played in the levels themselves, but rather can be unlocked in levels and played later in the arcade (but I won't!!!).

The bosses of worlds 2 through 4 in the original were successively more difficult reskins of the last (time constraints, maybe?). This time, they are all completely different and new. Things like this made me hopeful that this remake would represent a 'definitive edition,' with gameplay and layout left intact.

The problem? Moves from Pac-Man World 1 were imported to this remake, where they were absent and/or replaced by something else in the original. Throwing pac-dots, extending airtime, and even diving were not present in the original Pac-Man World 2. These moves are generally useless, or otherwise trivialize platforming sections from the original.

Concision is a blessing. Pac-Man's move-set is bloated, as is the expanded gamut of collectibles. I must admit, though, that many of the new secrets are solid, and the new bosses are at least entertaining. Difficulty, by altered level design or by having too many tools to work with, has taken a hit. I've remedied the latter by just unbinding some new moves, or not pressing the buttons.

—and Pac-Man is now fully voiced, like he was in Pac-Man World 3. This is just as jarring as the cutscenes are unnecessarily long. I've skipped nearly every one, and set voice volume to 0 before even making a save file.

10/10, One of the only perfect games

I didn't express any interest in the Steam version of Quake prior to the soft-remaster, and even then, a buddy gifted it to me—thanks, Jesse.

Sourceports did the job just fine for over a decade. Steam's original version was raw, janky, and not very hospitable to any operating system post-Windows XP. I understand that I could've bought it for legal access to the files, but bear with me: I got the .PAK files for Quake and Quake II on—no joke—a bootleg CD that I purchased for $2 at a rummage sale in 2015. And more, those versions had working OSTs. Steam lacked them. I have no clue as to why that was; I guess the Steam version of Quake II is still missing its soundtrack, then?

In any case, this new version is intact, insofar that it includes every official expansion, as well as a new one, and the soundtracks for all; moreover, this port boasts slightly higher fidelity, and is the most accessible Quake has ever been. The multiplayer overhaul is as impressive as it is seamless. There's nothing wrong with the KEX port at all—simple as. Game's 25 years old, and holds up perfectly. Nightdive and iD knew that they didn't have to change much. This is the definitive way to play Quake.

Edit:
Dimension of the Machine is a solid 10/10, some of the best level design I've seen in an FPS.
