Karryn's Prison is an absolute steal for its price. Very unique for its genre. Would say it's mechanically deeper and more engaging than many of its competitors, but it's too next-level to have competitors. I'm actually playing a real game here, even during the spicier parts. Which can be least or most of it, if you so desire. Unfortunately it's roguelite masocore, milking the game time a little too much with a little too many kick-in-the-balls game design decisions for my preference. That's clearly the idea, but I don't think it was a good one to such an extent. However, the game's so brilliant I can almost forgive all of that. It's touted as the best thing since ice cream, and even as a knee-jerk anti-hype contrarian, I have to vouch for that. It IS that good.

Started off slow but built up to an amazing experience. Gripping story, main characters are all likable, beautiful graphics, normal battles are great fun and flashy as. Combat against bosses' hyper armor is lame and it could use postgame/epilogue DLC but otherwise stellar.

An ending alone can't make a game, but an ending alone can break it. Tales of Berseria was great until then, but now I want my time back. Bonus points for being so bad it made me do my first serious review.
